Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: DRL relay
« on: 08 July 2007, 00:18:58 »
When you put a 10A fuse in the place of the DRL, what happens? Do you even have a connection there?

I ask that, because when I put a fuse there, the position (parking) lights turn on and I don't know why. Or maybe can I enable the DRL with a Tech2 reader?

thanks

Hi,
Does anyone know exactly where the daytime running light relay is?
I think it is on A pillar in the passenger side (from a left hand drive). Is it hard to reach?
I put a fuse in the DRL socket (in the fusebox), but only the position lamps turn on. I don't know what can that mean.

I want to enable these lights, because here in Chile the DRL are mandatory since 1st June on the interurban roads (including motorways). I think that it is best to have the lights running automatically all the time in order to avoid stupid tickets.

Omega General Help / Re: Another coolant leaking problem
« on: 24 November 2007, 16:57:28 »
Well today I checked the coolant level and I'm still loosing coolant  :(
I can feel a small coolant odour trough the ventilation system. Where else can the leakage be?

I'm worried because I'm loosing coolant, but I can't spot where the water is going. Worst case scenario is blown head gasket and that is $$$. Any other ideas?

Well, I changed the HBV today it didn't look too bad, but it wasn't working (the "cap" was loosing vacuum) and it was installed upside down  :o (stupid dealer). I installed a new one, tomorrow I will see if I'm still loosing coolant.

Apropo oil and "mayo". I did have some mayo on the breather tubes and on the oil cap, but no mayo on the dipstick and the oil looks pretty normal. I suppose that is only due to condensation. I live near the coast, so the air is humid.

Here are some pictures of the old HBV:

I was thinking today that maybe the problem is in the HBV. That valve has a vacuum pipe, and maybe the HBV is broken inside and is alowing coolant in the vacuum pipe which makes its way to the throttle body. Can this happen?
I'll try to take the HBV out this week and see if the problem is there. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Another coolant leaking problem
« on: 19 November 2007, 01:34:51 »
I everyone,

I'm having a very wierd coolant leakage. Like I said in a post from other thread, I've coolant in the crankcase breather lines. The symptom is that the coolant acumulates before the butterflies (throttle body) and in the breather tubes.
I really don't have a clue of what is causing this. I don't have water in the oil neither oil in the water. I first thought that the coolant could come from the coolant line in the throttle body, but I couldn't feel any leakage there.
Does anyone know if in the breather box behind the engine is a coolant line?
Any other Idea?

Thanks in advance

Omega General Help / Re:  ???? Where is the coolant going !
« on: 18 November 2007, 03:38:17 »
I've a similar problem right now. The coolant is "disappearing" but I also experienced misfires when cold. So I changed the spark plugs to see if any of them was covered in coolant, in which case I would have a blown head gasket. All the spark plugs were worn but without coolant. Then I discovered water in the Breather Body tubes. There is my leak.

I suggest that you look for a blown head gasket, or maybe the problem that I am having. I can see the breather body tubes with the typical light brown thing that apears when coolant and oil mix. Strangely is my oil in perfect condition and the coolant has no signs of oil (Should I ignore the oil cooler?).

Tomorrow I will search for the reason of my problem. If anyone has a clue, please let me know  ;)

I've used sonax cleaner in my fathers pickup (Chevrolet S10) with every oil change. I don't notice anything in particular. Probably it helps to keep the fuel system clean, but is difficult to know.
The bottle isn't expensive, so I think it is a good habit to use it.

Omega General Help / Re: Rear suspension noise
« on: 11 July 2007, 19:14:53 »
Thanks for the replies!

I tried the handbrake, but that didn't quieten the noise.
I will look underneath the car and pay atention to the exhaust system.

Omega General Help / Rear suspension noise
« on: 09 July 2007, 20:56:12 »
Hi,
I have a really anoying noise coming form the back of the car (the noise is stronger in the right side). It is like a fast "tack, tack, tack, etc...". The shocks are Bilstein (OE quality) new. I used to have a similar noise in the front. That were the links to the anti-roll bar, but I don't know if they also fail in the rear. The noise fades out a lot when the car is "warm".
Could it be the Shocks? or maybe something in the diff.? I think that these are the only things that can "warm up" back there (oil in the shocks and diff).

Any clue?

Thanks

Here is the photo.
The only modifications I've made to the car are the new Headlights (they are halogen, no HID) and the wheels (Opel original, from the facelift model).
I had a lot of problems with the car (I bought it second hand), but now it is working good, only some minor problems. It seems that it need a lot of care, in order to have it running properly.
But it is worth all the work and money :D.

Hi all, I'm Alvaro from Viņa del Mar, Chile.
I've got a 1997 Opel Omega MV6. Excellent car, sadly is the maintenance expensive, but I think I can get good advices form this community  ;).
I will soon post  a pic of my car, but it seems that I need to upload it to a server before posting it here.
