T/V licence for over 75s
« on: 08 March 2020, 15:34:50 »

Our licence is SWMBOs name. Over the last few days i've had a few e-mails, addressed to me not her, saying there is something wrong with my direct debit and i haven't renewed my licence. It quotes the correct expiry date, so i sent an e-mail back explaining that the wife is the named licence holder. It seems the, according to my e-mail account that my replies are not getting through to the sender, which says it's the T/V licence authority.  In the meantime we have received a new licence which has an expiry date of 31st May, this year, also stating that we need to do nothing at the moment and they will be in touch at a later date to inform us what to do when the over 75 concession runs out on May 31st. So, i'm assuming these e-mails that i'm getting are a fisching scam. Has anyone else received anything similar?

Sounds fishy to me, Ronny, ignore those emails. The licensing authority will always write to the named holder.

All the more reason for her to have given them YOUR email address  ::)

You should have received a letter that says if you are over 75 and receive Pension Credit you can fill out the enclosed form to apply for a free licence now. You need to send photocopy proof of Pension Credit but no need to disclose the amount. If the TV Licence is in your wife's name it matters not, as you will be entitled to it as a couple living together.
If you are over 75 but neither of you receive Pension Credit then you will have to pay. I'm just about to send proof for my parents, hence why I have the form in front of me right now.  :y

My parents are approaching 82 & 83. When they were 75 they just stopped paying for their licence. It seemed lost on them that you'd to still get a TV licence but you didn't need to pay for it  ::)

Like zero car tax, you've still got to go through the renewal process.
