AR35 question
« on: 08 May 2015, 15:55:32 »

Looking at the pool of ATF underneath the off side of the front bumper, it looks like i've a leak  :(

When I did the oil cooler / coolant flush / replaced the radiator last year, I noticed that the 2 flexi pipes from the solid pipes that clamp to the chassis (under the Airbox)  too the ATF radiator was a little bit on the dirty side so that is probably where the leak is.
I've just jet washed the pipes and area so it is nice and clean.
The question is ............... does the oil flow through the cooler with just the engine running or does it have to be in drive (back wheels in motion) ?

TIA  :)

Ahh the sassanach method, It's more of a flush than a change and needs quite a bit of ATF :y it's just a cooler pipe

Off topic again how is your car :y

That could be a leak from the power steering cooler... Lives across the front lower crossmember infront of the aircon fans and clipped to the cable tray there :y

Al ......... I wouldn't have thought the fluid would have made its way upto the top of the chassis frame underneath the airbox but i'll check it anyway  :y

James ............ thanks  :y

Found it  :y :y

Both of the metal pipes that went from the rubber over the radiator and into the cooler was corroded to opps :(
Attacked the corroded bits with a wire wheel / emery cloth, cut a couple of millimetres off the rubber and clamped it all back together with a bit of black cam cover goo for good luck.

I'll take it for a run tomorrow when I get back from work and see if it has worked  :y

Cheers Lads  :)

Oh well, its weeping again  >:(
Looking at the rubber pipe, if I cut out anymore it will be too tight which will cause further problems so it looks like i'm going to have to cut a few inches off and extend it upto the metal pipe / ATF radiator.

Before I get the knife out (for cutting the pipe not my wrists  :D), does anybody know the internal diameter of the pipe so I can get the right size and dig out a piece of copper pipe to act as inline splice ?

Also, do these 2 pipes that work there way back to the gearbox have any sort of non return valve in them ?
Thinking of sticking a pint of ATF down one to top up the gearbox without having to go through the hassle of jacking the car up blah blah blah ............

TIA  :)

I guess you could do that, but how would you know that it's at the right level?  :-\

I'm not sure of the consequences of over filling the gearbox, but it's probably not a good thing to do?  ;)  Goose the clutch maybe?  :-\

Know where your coming from and agree Tigg's  :)
A mate has pished off on holiday, and my axel stands / jack are in his piggin garage  >:(
Need the car this weekend so was going to slam a pint in there until I can do it properly then check the level when the tosser's home and I get most of my tool tools back   :)
As long as I don't go stupid with the top up, the case vent pipe should do the job with any excess pressure  ;)

I'll give it a go this afternoon

Cheers Tigg's  :)

TG - do you still need these?  Was in the garage last night and came across the bits I have then had one of those "Oh $hit, I was meant to get back to someone about those" moments.  I have pic of the bits so if you need them, pm me your whatsapp (or the like) and I'll send you the photo,
