Hi out there

There is a little problem with my winter Omega. It is a 97 Estate 2.0i 16V automatic.

When I start the car in the morning, everything is OK. The problems appear, when the engine temperature reaches 85°C. Driving constant with 2000 rpm is absolutely normal. But when I put the hammer down, the engine begins to stutter, specially on high performance (way up in the Black-forest). If revolution reaches 2500 - 3000 rpm everything is OK again and the old boy runs almost 200 km/h. Early this week I drove to Munich - terrible to drive the A8.

But I found out a trick. Because the Omega has automatic transmission I pushed the "S" bottom on the gearbox. So the revolution level is higher and I can avoid the critical range 2000 - 2500 rpm.

But what is the reason?

Failing dis pack or plugs/leads would be my starting point...

Rolf, that sounds like a misfire.

in addition to DIS-pack, check for water in plug wells. Leaking scuttle is usual to blame.

The dis box I changed because some cracks in the isolation. But there was no change. In the moment the car runs absolute normal, because it is ugly cold outside and the fault appears only on a hot engine.

Dis cables and plugs looks good and dry, but I like to exchange them next weekend, when I can use the workshop again.

The blow by system I cleaned last spring, including drilling up the hole- screw to 2 mm.

Points to leads then if DIS pack was replaced with new... though if second hand, don't rule it out ;)

The Dis was replaced by a brand new part, so I think I can rule it out.

Over next weekend I will exchange cables, plugs and maybe crankshaft sensor. I will use components tested on my saloon as OK.
