New battery required - is Tradeclub still running?
« on: 04 December 2016, 13:51:56 »

As above really.

I haven't been driving the Omega much recently and have had a couple of flat batteries. I bought a new Tradeclub battery soon after I bought the car 7 years ago so it is probably at end of life anyway.

Is a VX battery still the way to go?

I put a Tradeclub battery on my MV6 a month of so ago.  Ensure its the 74Ahr one, as the tradeclub cross reference guide is wrong.

Cost was about £45 + VAT iirc

I have several Omegas so as as a result they don't all get used as often as they would if I had just the one. I find that if they aren't used for several weeks, they can flatten a perfectly good battery; new batteries included. There doesn't seem to be any significant drain on any of the cars, but they all can go flat within a relatively short period of time. I have a friend who only uses his Omega at weekends, and has had endless battery problems even after replacing them with new ones.
Smart battery chargers definitely help keep the batteries in good health, and can (to a point) rejuvenate a completely flat battery to a useable state.
I'd check the condition of the battery you have before buying a replacement going off my experiences above.

Similar arrangement here, I've been moving the batteries between cars and utilising my Ctek charger to keep them charged.

If leave a Car untended for a while I normally just diss the Neg on the Battery and insert a bit on cardboard in the way (assuming youve dissed the Power Sounder if its an Omega) 10 second job, has always worked for me, so much so that a baby 10mm plastic spanner is on my key ring now.

Omegas generally good for about 4 weeks before starting to struggle to start, if battery is good....

...but any significant discharge of the battery that's left in that state for a period of time will shag the battery.

So regular "not used for 2 weeks" will harm the battery

I have been using it to get to work 2 days a week (20 miles each way) but it didn't get driven for 3 weeks.

I have also been using a 12v compressor to pump the tyres up once a week.

At 7 years old I think the battery is knackered but I might be wrong :-\

I bought the bigger version of this for my BMW a few months ago and with next day delivery and a 4 year warranty it's hard to beat IMO.   :y
