« on: 18 July 2021, 19:15:56 »
Restoring the Volvo 2.5 5 pot engine in a Focus but have found threads for the offside engine mount to be damaged. To far gone to restore with an m12 x 1.75 tap so will need to be helicoiled, block is Ali so any tips for getting this right first time as it is still in the car & is it worth changing fixing from bolt to stud, head size is 15mm, length is about 50mm & should be torqued to 115nm

General Car Chat / Solar powered battery charger
« on: 03 May 2021, 19:05:31 »
As SWMBO has been told no return to fun factory, keep working from home until August at the earliest possibly later in the year, was wondering if solar powered battery charger or maintainer would work if placed behind windscreen. Don’t always get the chance to take it out for a blast once or twice a week so wondered if solar power is the way to go in keeping battery topped up & could it be connected for two weeks or more. Have no experience of these so any help appreciated & if so any recommendations

Anyone know if it’s possible to play music by adding usb to standard Ford/Sony 6 disc player so I can drop tunes onto flash drive, could upgrade but would rather keep look as factory standard. Happy to pull unit out of the dash but not good at major surgery :-\

General Discussion Area / Help tracing his past
« on: 18 November 2019, 19:31:09 »
Any advice on tracing someone’s past. A friend recently went to an open day at a local cemetery, (he is part of the god squad) and came across a grave in the name of Ivor Bueb, turns out he was twice Le Mans winner in 1955 & 1957. Have read about his motor racing history, but would like to know a bit more about how he lived his early life, where he lived & so on, local authorities in east & south London are as much use as a cat flap on a submarine so any ideas where to go next?

General Car Chat / Parts availability
« on: 20 October 2018, 19:43:49 »
Just had the Omega given an advisory on steering idler & after a chat with the garage owner he tells me Vauxhall are no longer stocking parts for older cars as storing them in warehouses is no longer viable. Not a problem as I rebuilt it but wondered what other parts are no longer available as some pattern parts are absolute crap
