Driving home last night there was a lovely rotten egg/ burining smell in the cabin, then i realised there was no heater fan Where do i start looking chaps

Hi,never done it myself but according to haynes u have to remove glovebox to gain access to motor,reads fairly easy to do,also mentions a "blow motor series resistor" which is at the side of the motor...hope this helps...wayne

Hmmm, if it's that easy I might take a look at mine someday.  Mine has some bearing noise, not bad though.  Are these known to fail?  I have 150K

Changed the resistor on mine (climate), it's not difficult but there isn't much room & it's fiddly.
If it's the fan that's packed in & needs replacing I would imagine there's quite a bit more than the glovebox that needs to come off.

Your backside, the smell is more concentrated because there is no fan to blow the smell away. I would stay off the beer and curry till you get it fixed

resistor is fiddly and haynes is not brilliant - make sure you remove the vacume hose ( just unclips) and those darn wires - need to push them out of your way.

Then its on your back in the passenger footwell.

Fans are very reliable, unless they have been filled with water following a blocked scuttle drain!

Also easy to change.....

Just spoken to Timbuk (he can't get to a PC) & we're wondering if the the air-con set-up is the same as climate ie; is the resistor clipped into the fan casing?

Air con and climate use the same fan and caseing but the climate uses an electronic speed controller instead of resistors. Fits into the case in exactly the same way as resistor but is not interchangeable

i didnt think digital climate had a resistor ( but i could be wrong - wife tells me this daily) but yes its clipped in on the side otherwise

Don't know what it's called but said resistor, matchless says "elecronic speed controller", metal fins with plastic connector.
