Title: Air con
Post by: Raeturbo on 25 July 2019, 21:15:26
I’m very happy with my air con in this weather, I have 36f measured correctly about three inches into the central vent medium fan speed. Never had it this good in other cars :y

The A/C dosn't work on the V70 and I'm really regretting not getting it sorted a few months ago.  :(

If it’s any comfort I started off with, condenser, drier/receiver, and refill, at cost £300 fitted, i was reluctant but I thought it’s a great car it’s only once ::) then of course the worse pipe of all broke (goes through chassis rail) so it then cost me a further £175 to
Buy fit and refill, and I was lucky as I got the pipe from big griffin for a song!  Anyway it’s been on all week and by god I’ve appreciated it.

Had mine regassed last july, the day before going to Silverstone for the F1. Don't think its quite as cold now as it was then, but it was still very nice to be driving around in it today with cold air blasting out of the vents. Cant put a price on working a/c in this weather.  :y

Yes indeed it makes you think how you could do without it in this heat! I really don’t feel so bad now about all that cash  :( well I’m trying :y and I’m never going to switch it off.

My old 190 doesn't have a/c and I was finding excuses not to drive it for the last week or two. Then it died and saved me the bother.  ;D

We didn't have global warming in the 70's, so we didn't need aircon. It still felt pretty warm though.  ;D

I spent most of that summer trying to kill myself on various motorbikes, and just before my 17th birthday in October, I came very close to succeeding.  ;D
My knee joint has been reminding me of that episode for the last week. Its giving me serious aggro.  >:(

Only really rich people had cars with a/c then. Normal people just wound the windows down with the handles provided.   :)

I was 20 then, mk2 3.4 jaguar, ford Zodiac mk3, Vauxhall’s Cresta pa friary, Thames 7cwt, plus others in that busy year. Air con was provided by the rate of window winding :y

Aircon doesn't work on my V70,but does on the 960 it's never worked on the Omega and certainly won't now I've put the shorter non-aircon auxiliary belt on it to bypass the compressor which is kaput.Working/not working really doesn't bother me either way,I'm just loving this weather :y

Doesn't work on the Trolley either. Had it regassed and it was OK for a week or so, and it does demist really well, but doesn't cool the air at all :-\

When it blew the pipe after £300! I was devastated
But of course after all that spent I had to follow it up.
Evo and Astra units I’ve ditched so at least I’m not going to get a bill for that again.

Both my 1990 Carlton and 2001 Omega are ice cold and working nicely. Too cold infact - I sometimes have to put the heater on to stop the windscreen misting up on the outside  :D

The posh Vectra, is nice n cold...
Can't say the same about the company motor, I've an ongoing fight with the workshop to get my climate control sorted, worked for a Fortnite, then stopped on Monday,   So go back today to see if it can go to Volvo's... If not il be dismantling the bloody dash board, after they've tried to reprogram it again, bloody computers.

I bought a Groupon voucher last night for an A/C recharge at ATS for £37.99 and did it via TopCashback for another 6% off taking it to £35.71.  :)

Phoned ATS this morning expecting them to tell me they can't do it until 2025, by which it it will have been too late as we will have all drowned or burnt up or something, but got told "How about 12.00?"!  :o

Can't do today as it's in for MOT, so it's booked in for 10.00am tomorrow. :y

The best bit about keeping a 60,s car cool inside was the side vent on the front doors. Turn it right round and it blasted the air in from outside. My first real car was a 64 FB Victor estate with these followed by a 101 Victor with them as well

Quarter lights were also very useful when someone wanted to break into your car ....  ::) ::)

Well I wandered around it the other day and spotted a number plate bulb and a sidelight bulb gone, which I replaced (sidelight bulb was a faff!  ::)) and it was time well spent as she passed with no advisories.  :y

So all set for the A/C recharge tomorrow and fingers crossed that is all it needs!  :-\  ::)  :)

I've worked out a way to stop Mrs TB nicking my car, with its excellent A/C and even better chilled seats....    ...I've refused to refuel it ;D

So today, she's back in TBE, and complaining the A/C is shagged ;D

Half the dash out, found a blocked pollen filter, and its had a new hedgehog, and blower assembly, due to bad air flow??? (been in since new), has made the air flow better looking like got to go to dealers.   Looking like expansion valve,/ dryer.
