My stupid alarm is at it again.
« on: 03 July 2014, 18:52:02 »

I have been having problems with my alarm on & off for about 3 years now, It just goes off when it feels like it when parked up, My old bus does not have a sounder but a horn so it is not that, I have tried disconnecting the stereo also the ultrasonic sensors & the bonnet switch but still no joy, Yesterday I cleaned up every battery connection just in case it was a resistance issue but it still goes off, Also cleaned up the rear glass contacts but it's still going off, I have now had to disconnect the horn again as the neighbours were getting a bit upset, I'm now thinking of changing the alternator out of desperation as I have run out of any other ideas but as it is a pig of a job I thought i'd put it out there in case there is something I haven't thought of.,,,,HELP! :'( :'(

What does the alarm unit say is the reason for it going off?

To be honest I didn't know there was a way of telling what is setting it off, Please enlighten me, & don't forget my old thing is before tech2 just in case that is the answer on later models. :y

Sorry, not been on  :-[

If your diags tool can read non-drivetrain ECUs, look under body > ATWS and look at both the ECU fault codes and the Alarm codes.

If its IR remote locking (model year 1994/5), Tech2 can't read it, but Tech1 should be able to. Not sure what intelligence is built into the IR based alarm.

I dont have a diag tool of any kind, I have so far relied on the paperclip test for finding any problems but as far as i recall it doesn't cover the alarm system, & yes my alarm is the IR type.
