If the government spend more than 10% of the motoring taxes that they steal from us on roads and services, this topic would never need to be discussed - we would have an ace road network capable of providing what we, the customers have already paid for, i.e. a network fit for purpose, in good repair and pothole-free!
They don't even pretend that greed cameras are for safety purposes now: like parking charges, they are simply more ways of revenue collecting, in addition to the existing punitive motoring taxes.
Ran over!

Why not make a full MOT a condition of the sale? If the vendor is reluctant to agree, it probably tells you all you need to know......

Harking back to an earlier comment about oil residues causing this type of problem; when I had a Carlton, my garage advised that vx did NOT recommend flushing oil prior to an oil change. Is this true of Omegas, because to my simple mind such a strategy would seem to be helpful here, and nobody ever explained why flushing was a bad thing.

Ron.

P.S. People have been so helpful on here and I only wish I could help in return, but my expertise isn't likely to be helpful here: I was a Lecturer in Electronics and Radio (and photography!) at Chelmsford College for the 20 years before I retired, having spent the previous years as a Design/Development Engineer in industry.

Wow, what a fantastic and comprehensive reply, BlackViper - much appreciated.
Thanks a million.
Just a little 1/2 hour job, then!

I think I have a similar problem, and being a novice I don't know where the breathers are - help, please?

Thanks for your very useful answer. My aircon doesn't work (radiator leak), so I can't use the dehumidifying aspect of that, can I?
Before delving into the glove box, etc., I ought to do the basics, like checking pollen filter!

If you have a hiccough in the ECU, sometimes you can reset it by disconnecting the battery completely for an hour or two. Then reconnect, cross fingers and the Omega gods may be with you.....

Tell me more about the steaming up, please - mine seems to have started doing that and I suspected that the drainage pipe was blocked - cleared it, but still steaming.

Hi

After doing a bit of browsing around the forum, getting to know possible future problems, I noticed several instances where resets were required on electrical items, for example:

Windows, one click closing: Close window and hold switch until you hear the relay click.

Sun roof positions resets: Push button on fully open, fully up, and I think, when shut

Aircon recirculation flap (this one totally solved my steaming up problem): Switch on and off. The ECU then knows where it is.

It would be interesting to know, what else to check after a battery disconnect / reconnect.

I'm looking in with interest because I've been told I need my wishbones done, but not sure that I have the skills, nor, at 70, the will and energy to do it.
An Omega is also hard on the pension!

Thanks, Robson., and all other answerers. Where can I buy a Wahler thermostat? I looked up Unipart, as suggested, and found them to be expensive.
I certainly do need a new one as my car takes ages to show any increase on the temperature gauge - not good with the weather we are now moving into!
It will also adversely affect fuel consumption with the engine taking so long to reach its efficient operating temperature and I can't afford the extra petrol!

Has anyone changed the thermostat on a 2.6 V6 and is it as horrendous as I fear?

This charger can be left connected forever, as it drops back to trickle charge when bulk charging is complete, but you MUST disconnect the battery fully as it is a pulse charger and the pulsing will affect the electronics in your Omega if the battery is left connected.

Somewhere lurking in the depths of my mind is the thought that before you can change to fully synthetic oil from mineral you need to do something - flush the engine out, maybe?
Does anyone know what I'm talking about, because I don't!
