Omega Electrical and Audio Help / central locking
« on: 14 February 2007, 20:29:49 »
Hi......... Over the last few weeks i've noticed that the drivers door was reluctant to lock or unlock at times on the remote, I took it to be the cold frosty days we were having as it appeared to be when it was frosty i was having this issue, however to day ( no frost ) when locking car the doors locked then unlocked again, this was because the drivers door was refuseing to lock with remote.
After locking the car manualy and trying to unlock with remote only the drivers door refused to unlock and need the key to unlock drivers door.

Any ideas or do i have a dead motor in this door.

I can relate to this problem you have. I've had countless SD1's in the past & these where renowned for the props on Auto's cluncking. This would be the first place i'd go for. HTH

Where should I look at on the prop to fix this problem?

Grab the prop either side of the centre bearing and see what the movement is like you'll soon know......... the rubber on mine was well goosed and supporting nothing but only thumped on pulling away ...... never when driving along

regards

Omega General Help / Occasional Non Start
« on: 16 April 2008, 17:13:37 »
About a month ago I filled car in petrol station and when I went to start car ........... turned over fine but non start, took key out tryed again and started but felt hesitant at first but ran fine (no missfires) from then on.

It did it again last week same carry on as above, but then 2 days ago stopped car at friends garage emptyed some stuff out boot an then no start, this time I all but drained the battery trying to get it to go, we then put it on the booster and the car fired first time.

So I thought at first it was battery as it seemed to drain fairly quickly and something to do with the immobiliser.
So this morning i went into local motor factors had battery checked but it shows as fine
My friend has a cheep tech 2 and for some reason the "My Naff Code Reader" demo software, which he has used on this car before said ....... no echo or kept flashing use line 7 but wouldn't go any further....... so no fault codes obtained
The car has behaved its self all day until I parked in town and yep no start again
This time though when I let all the lights on dash do there thing ........... but I had 1 lit that is a car with a spanner through it.

Sure enough the cavalry arrive I turn the key and it fired as if nothing was wrong, cant say I saw that warning light as the car started as normal and is not on when running

I've had a look about here and as I said thought it was the immobiliser, but could this be the crank shaft pick up?

will try again to get fault codes but any thoughts just now are welcome

It's a 02  Omega 2.6
many thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Tyre choices on facelift Elite??

Got the Falken ZE 512's on mine and have lasted well , not bad in the wet but strangely enough feel odd occasionly on dry roads, but that could be just down to road surface as these wide tyres can give you some nightmares in the lorry tracks on motorways if you see what I mean, so, for the price not too bad a choice.
Cheers Pete

I too have a full set of Falkins on the Omega, they are a good enough grippy tyre all round for me, mine haven't worn to well though......... I'm needing a change soon and after only 13,000mls........ might be how i drive or the fact that most of that mileage has been done on twisty A-roads to work.

Also glad to hear I'm not the only one to have had a tramline issue with this make of tyre and to be caught out when least expecting it........... had the car checked about three times for tracking and lower suspension arms and each time being told is was most likely the tyres................................................guess i can believe them now.

Omega General Help / Fuel pick up
« on: 23 January 2007, 10:39:31 »
I tend to fill the Omega when the tank shows between a quarter and the red zone I've never had the low fuel light come on while driving, So i can't say it's really been a problem that i've noticed in the year i've had the car

I noticed a couple of times when below a quarter but nearer the red zone that when pulling out of a juction smartish that the car would lose power but, the TC light would not flash
However yesterday a friend and I were running late, the guage was showing just under a quarter and the car suffered several times as if the TC was cutting in, again no TC light showing but, did notice for a second or two that the car felt rough, though not quite a slight miss
This happened mostly at roundabouts and tighter corners with the TC switched both on and off
We did the business, stuck in £25 of fuel and blasted of back home just as briskly as we did on the way out and the car behaved as normal

And we did try
TC on:- TC light would flash as expected
TC off:- tyres would light up no loss of power

So i'm guessing i have fuel pick up problem when the tank is low and fuels sloshing about but, is fine when driving in pretty much a straight line

Any ideas or should i just keep the tank above the quarter mark

P.S. i don't think i've ever managed to put in more than 65ltr even when the guage was showing lower than this

Omega General Help / Re: MOTORWAY NOISE
« on: 23 January 2007, 09:30:01 »
I've had something like this several time before.......... if it's a light vibration through the seat it's a good time to check the UJ's on the prop shaft as they are starting to tighten up and will need to be replaced and as happened to me a while back the center bearing carrier on my Senattor started to break up and caused the same effect but i tended also to get a shudder when pulling out out of a junction but, i never had a steering shake with this
it's worth looking in this area as the Omega has the same set up

Omega General Help / Re: Automatic gearbox problem
« on: 18 December 2006, 02:08:58 »
Hi...... iirc didn't the Senator use the AR35 auto box in the 3.0lts.............. i do remember reading a long time ago someone in that forum saying there was 4 types of software for the Senator........... don't know how they changed it, maybe flashed the chip??

i do prefer the software my old Senator uses over the Omega but mine uses the AR25 auto ........ i think

so would an auto ECU from a late Senator fit an earlier Omega if needs be?

Interior space is similar, but ride and handling aren't up to Omega.  Still very comfortable though...

I beg to differ.!

interior space is on the senator is larger... especially with regards to rear seat leg room ...   Senator B was "well endowed" to say the least...   I'm 6'2 with long legs... and i did NOT need the seat all the way back...

but I Do in the Meega.

and even when the Sennie seat was all the way back... the kids had more leg room left than the do in the meega.

although i'd  concede that the ride in the meega is PERHAPS marginally better for some, I personally feel the Senator handles better, especially "on the limit" where I find the Omega much more twitchy...

overall, I would not consider the Omega a massive improvement on the senator......  probably quite the opposite...   it was a step down...

why?/

Well, the Omega replaced Both the Carlton and Senator.

I WOULD agree that the meega is an improvement on the Carlton...   not massively perhaps... but definitely nontheless.

however the Senator was hugely superior to the Carlton...   and to some extent remains so with the Omega.,

IMHO Vx/opel never made a proper replacement for the Senator.....

As much as i love my Omega, I'm going to agree with maxV6
Don't get me wrong guys, i've had a long time love affair with my Senator and have no regrets in buying the Omega
The Senator left a large pair of shoes to fill

IMHO Vx/opel have'nt made a proper replacement for the Omega either
