Title: Making an insurance claim
Post by: SMD on 02 May 2019, 21:09:38
I have 13 years NCD but I have not protected it  ::)

If I make a claim (fire), will I lose it all?

Car is worth £2.5k

Check your policy/schedule document. Most of them tell you what you lose.

In fact, if you share the name of your insurer it's probably available on tinterweb.

But whatever you do, don't phone them to find out!  ;)

There you go.

A loss of 9yrs.   :'(

Probably still worth making the claim if it's £2.5k. That said, maybe worth having a long think about what the insurance company will give you for a car you believe is £2.5k. Unless it's agreed value?

Your lose it and have to start again, the Insurer will also increase your Premiums next year and onwards as much as posible, they will increase because youve claimed and try and recover some of there loss, also bear in mind you will also get your Excess deducted from the Claim.

If you Swap to another Insurer after the Claim, they will put a Premuim on your Quote due to the Claim and no NCB, Lose / Lose Im afriad.

I lost a Car (stolen) earlier this year, car was worth around £1000, by the time I would have lost my NCB (Cant protect because its Trade), paid out my Excess and swallow the next few years increased Premiums, I decided not to bother.   :'(

Yeah, I figured as much which is why I didn't claim. It would cost me more than £2.5k in the next 5 years!

Was it an Omega that was stolen?

Also remember that even if you had protect NCD, you'd still be butt-raped at renewal time, as you've had a claim.

I experimented with this today as SWMBO collects her new car tomorrow. She had an "at fault" claim in July 2017. When the unidentified Lady bits took the side out of the yeti.

Me, her, with business use for me doing 10,000 miles p.a. was £395 ish. Without declaring the accident, £370ish. Not as bad as I would have expected. We have protected NCD.

I just phoned to tell my multi-car insurer to cancel the auto renewal for 3 cars due next week, "Hang on a minute Sir, have you had other quotes?"
 >:( >:( >:(
"I'm getting them now" sez I.
" Would you be interested in renewing if I knocked another £65 off (the £704 you would have paid if you were mug enough to allow us to gouge you)?"
Bastards!!! >:( >:( >:(

Do what I do Shackeng, keep the conversation going until you have them saying they accept half their original quote, in line with the competitive quotes you have, as the new premium.  £65 off is just the start! 8) 8) :D ;)

No it was a Corsa, disappeared New Years Eve, so took me a few days to work out it was missing.

Having said that, I had Omega's stolen in the past, both Ex Plod, one went missing from Private Land only a few days someone came to view and was keen to buy but decided not to and said he would get back to me  :-\ the other was taken from a locked Garage, both were a few years back when V6 Cats were worth a few bob then, having said that working LSD's would also fetch very good money in the right Market.  >:( :-\
