Just tried to go out and the key will not turn in the ignition Neither will the spare. Just also found out that my son went out to the car tonight and unlocked it with the key, somthing I never do. He then put it in the ignition and HE said it wouldnt turn. Im not sure if he has done something to the immobiliser or has the barrel just gone Any help would be great, if not will call out AA tomorrow.

I have had both batteries off the cars and just wondered what needs resetting :-? One radio is fine and other one is doing nothing, not even asking for code :-/ I think the windows have also been effected :-? anything else that would have been effected :-? I have searched for info but not had much luck so far.

After changing the alternator Im still having problems. I think its an Earth problem and suspect the Earth from the neg termanal, to underneath the battery tray. ( remodified to get alternator out  ) Im not 100% sure I have put everything back correct as had to do it over several days. What wires should be attached under the tray and how do I test that it is a faulty earth wire from the battery. I had a real job to get alternator out and could well have damaged something

Yesterday my battery light came on while driving. It keeps fading on and off, nothing else seems wrong :-? The battery is only 3 months old and I put it on when having hot start problems. Still a pain to start when hot but was going to keep going until something else went wrong. Got stuck in the garage again tonight, they must think I fancy the guy behind the desk as I spend so much time there
Noticed the battery light stays very dim when I first turn keys on and get brighter when driving. Any ideas where I should start checking tomorrow :-/

The rear electric windows are not working on Syd, Im sure they did The dogs were not happy sitting in traffic on the m25 yesterday where do I start?
Also any ideas why the alarm on Pete keeps going off during the night wakes up the cows!!!!

Omega General Help / alternator repair

I changed my alternator just before xmas and that has now died ( it wasnt a new one ) so Im trying to fix the original one as described in the maintenance section. Mine looks a bit different but not that much. There is reference to the brush/regulator pack, how do I know if it is that :-? and where do I get replacement from :-? the brushes do look very worn down but again not sure what they look like new :-?


looks like black sealant on the other side?


also where is my connection from the brush/regultor module to 0V is via the securing screws, the positive supply is via a spring contact
as is suggested could need cleaning. Any help  :-/

Omega General Help / Help! locked out with no battery

 Had a complete blonde moment and not even blonde After having problems with the alternator I have been taking the battery off at night to recharge, to get kids to school in the morning Last night I locked the car with remote and then removed the battery to charge didnt think anything of it until the penny dropped and now of course I can't get in it :-/ I have tried turning the key and lifting the handle and all the other methods involve jump starting the car in different locations. But if I have no battery then this won't work :-? :-? Son has exam at 11am, live in a village and only local with transport is going to a funeral today so PLEASE HELP!!!

Just tried to pop out and once I turn the engine over the battery light is staying on :-? I had this just before xmas and it faded on and off, I changed alternator and then had no more problems. But this time it stays on all the time, any quick checks I can do in the dark  Need to be out by 8pm but dont fancy the battery draining while Im out driving in the lanes Im really going off Syd

Omega General Help / Alternator removal/fitting on 2.5td

After a VERY long day and thanks to The Boy & Darth Loo-knee  I now have an alternator that will hopefully get Syd running again. I have looked everwhere on here and can not find any guide/steps on what is the best order of removal and refitting. I had hoped to be back by lunchtime, have the car in bits and all done by now. But due to a sight seeing trip around London , or ok I got a bit lost Im only just back. So I now have 3 hours in the morning to get old one off, new one on and then must head off to Great Yarmouth to collect my daughter :-/ So any tips for the morning will be gratefully received

Omega General Help / Flat tyres

Syd has been parked up for a few weeks due to the snow and ignition barrel failing. As the snow has melted today Ive noticed I have 2 flat front tyres any ideas :-? 1 will inflate but other will not except any air. So I have finally got the barrel back in but still cant drive my car

After re building my old ignition I now have the key turning in the barrel but tried to re fit it today and I cannot get it to click in :-? the outer casing goes in on its own ok but when its altogether there seems to be something stopping the last few mm. I know I had to release a sprung clip to get it out but does not seem to help when trying to put it back in. Infront of the hole is plastic casing attached to the steering wheel, do I need to remove that to get better access :-? I have the key in position 1.

Omega General Help / alternator wires

I would like to check alternator wires to see if they are my non charging problem what ones could it be and what should the meter reading say :-/ The battery stopped charging ( its a new battery ) so I changed alternator a few weeks ago, worked ok for a couple of weeks but its now gone back to the same problem of not charging. A garage confirmed it was the alternator first time round but I never checked any wires, not sure they did either.

Just found my keys in the dogs bed , the rubber button has gone    I can see the little red switch inside, I can push it in but a real pain. Can I just get replacement outer cover :-/ or do I have to buy whole new key

what is paperclip code 74 on a diesel, Ive only changed the alternator had to also trace a faulty earth wire but thats all sorted now. What else could I have done :-/

Anyone with a 2.5td can tell me what wires/how many should be on the earth point under the battery Due to work my alternator change was done over a few days and I cant remember what ones come off from underneath the battery My coalman re arranged my battery tray to get the alternator out and diconnected the cables, I cant wait a week on Friday until he comes back
