Sometimes the original part is just the pattern bit repackaged, obviously they don't make all the bits themselves!  I suppose if the bits are top quality it shouldn't be a problem?

after recent experiance I say Genuine Genuine Genuine Genuine only!!!

After meeting up with TheBoy, comparing Halfrauds Oil filter prices with Vx geniune, (Halfrauds: £5.99, Vx Retail: £4.00, Vx Trade: £1.02)

Also looking at the crappy air filter they put in mine, i am only going to use Genuine parts now.

Re: Timing belts - having just been quoted by GeoffD (is he here yet?) I would happily throw the Omega in his direction and let him sort it, and wander around town for a couple of hours :)

(sorry, not quiet the d-i-y ethusiast perspective).

Geff's here - albeit under a different username - "v6man54deg".

I bought the same kit from a local motor factor's, even though they gave me trade price it was just over £90 inc. VAT IIRC. Went on recommendation from a mate who said that Gates were about the best you can buy for timing belts.

Other prices - a reversing light bulb from Vx on trade club - just over 44p INC VAT, retail pricing from Vx is 76p inc. VAT. I'd have thought Halfrauds would probably be charging at least £1 each - haven't checked though ...
