RS4
« on: 27 October 2015, 19:08:02 »

Been in one of these today, start up and in centre of instrument display was flashing a warning about the brakes and an advisory to limit revs to 7,000.Brakes felt ok but I was only moving it around at about 10-15mph.Don't know what was wrong with them, but as it's red lined at 8,000 then I would imagine limiting yourself to "only" 7,000 would still mean you're travelling at a fair old rate of knots :o

Be fair to say that a thousand RPM would equate to about 20 mph in top... Mahoosive difference between stopping distance/effort from 135 mph and 155mph... Pads are probably getting a bit low...

Which in those could be a scary prospect - my father runs a B5 RS6. Brake Discs are £200 EACH and £100 for a set of pads.  :o

The numbers are unreal running that thing. 16-17mpg on super unleaded feels cheap by comparison.

It was a 59 plate Serek. The estate version if that makes any difference, sounded really nice, couldn't cope with getting into/out of those seats on a regular everyday type basis though.I'm getting too damn old :(

but if you have nearly 500 bhp under foot need to stop,
RS models are sports cars and those never cheap to run

Very true,I suppose I've just never been exposed to that level of cost on a car before - £1,200 for a cam belt every 35k is another one, £800 for gearbox service - necessary as they appear to be on their limit in this particular application. Would hate to get the bills for something truly exotic.   :D

If you want a cheap to run sports car, get a light weight one. :y
