Some achievement even with all the detection equipment known to man!

These sort of records will become harder and harder to beat given traffic levels, speed restrictions and so on even with better vehicles.

I know I've managed 70mph average coming back from Ipswich in rush hour Friday evening traffic, including a long stretch of average 40mph, and stopping for fuel. That's in a car with a realistic top speed of 145mph and British traffic.

When I was in the London Ambulance Service (1983-1989) we had a premature baby run with a Police escort , I was driving the Ambulance a Bedford CF automatic, covered 45 miles in 36 minutes which is an average speed of 75 MPH the front wheels were smoking when we eventually arrived at the receiving unit , but it was one of the best experiences of my life.

My reply was tongue in cheek Nick.  :y  I'm well aware of how good an average speed that is, having set a slightly lower than that average on a long journey for family reasons.  :'(  But, mine was on a very early hours of the morning run on two lane bypasses and motorways.... err I mean autobahns. Every junction, every holdup has to be recovered by hitting very high speeds. To put it in to perspective, at the end of each week, my commute average speed is 27mph, and I don't hang about where I can cover some ground.
So yes, I was only joking.  ;) :y

I did my speed awareness course and then promptly followed it up with another speeding fine and points.  ::)  As my insurance automatically renews (yeh I know that's wrong for competitiveness but I'm old and suffering from CBA) I genuinely  ::) forgot to notify my insurers of the SP30. My last offence was early in 2016 so all good so far but, as I recently added another car to the fleet I had to contact them. They asked me for a licence check code, which I obliged, and because they go back five years I got clobbered for extra.  ::) ;D  Hey ho, such is life.  :)

In 1980 when there was no dual carriageway on the 90 odd miles between J12 of the M1 and Halstead in North Essex, I did Liverpool docks to North Essex in 200 minutes (235 miles iirc) which I was quite chuffed with at the time.
I got chased by plod through some villages in around Herts. but I lost them.
Those were the days eh.

Used to get to Shoeburyness from here in just under 3hrs on a regular basis about 10yrs ago.Prior to that used to go to Halstead quite often as one of my sons-in-law originally came from there and indeed it's where the wedding was for him to become my son-in-law,can't recall the travel time to get there though.

I know a guy who got dinged at 78mph in a 70 a week or so ago - he got points and a fine because ...

... that's not fast enough to be offered the "education"! Has to be 79mph or more.. ;D

Last time for me was 36 in a 30, so maybe it depends on % over the limit.

I imagine it's region dependent, and for the force that issued his NIP is the course is only offered for 35-42mph (in a 30), 46-53 (in a 40), 57-64 (50), 68-75 (60) or 79-86 (in a 70). You'd still have been offered a course for your previous infraction, assuming these are new rules  :y
