Ford automatics
« on: 09 December 2019, 22:00:05 »

Evening gays, I mean guys 😘

I’m still looking at these Fiestas. Not interested in the hot versions and definitely not interested in the Ecowank versions either. Just a lovely 10-15 plate zetec or duratec 1.4 or 1.6.

It will be automatic unless I grow another arm over next year or so 🤔 so my question is... did ford only put the “power shift” double clutch auto transmission in these or can I get one with standard auto box and torque converter set up? I’ve heard some bad things about these power shift boxes so would prefer standard auto if possible 👍

AFAIK, you can only get the 1.4 with a 4 speed automatic, not the 1.6. Also I think you have to look early in the production run for that shape as I think they moved everything over to Powershift at some point.

Earlier 4 speed autos were called 'Durashift' or similar. And had a more traditional looking auto J-gate shifter.

The 1.4 had a standard 4 speed auto option, no idea how available these are.

The 6 speed is the dual clutch Powershift.

I personally hate the Fiesta, never enjoyed them, I would be looking towards an i10 or similar for a small hack

Do we know anything about the reliability of the power shift box?

Been a few versions, some wet and some dry clutch setups, all seem to be less capable and reliable than a traditional auto

I think the Zaf-C is one of the few out there with old-school traditional slush box autos.

All the better for it, liking the Daddy bus a commuter.  :)

Sorry yes and other Vauxhalls, Mokka, Insignia etc. Now PSA owns Vauxhall, they may start putting their own crap in.  :(

Vauxhall used to have the Easytronic automated manual but it had its own problems.

I think, despite the scare stories, most people don't even notice any difference. There are bound to be some who have problems, but isn't that the same with anything?
Wifey's K has had problems, but Vx have fixed them promptly and courteously, with no mention of money changing hands and always provided a courtesy car.
I cannot recommend Perrys in Barnsley enough, they are how a main dealer should be. I cannot recommend Evans Halshaw at all, they are not interested once you've bought a car.

Snap on my experience, first Zaf came from them at St Albans. Second from Drive Bristol, the after service has been much better.

Wifey has a 18 plate i20 and she’s received impeccable after sales service from Spirit Hyundai in Northampton. I’d get an automatic i30 (which she had before) but I just love the fiesta.

Its well known what I think of most Fords. But I do have a soft spot for the little Fifi.  Despite Fords attempts to knacker the handling, I still prefer it to other small cars like the Corsa and Polo.

I know its off topic as its not an auto, but my son has a 15 plate Fez ST, and by f*@k what fun to be had in a sub 10 grand car. I will state that as its basically a go-cart, I could never use it as a daily driver.
He drives it like Miss Daisy though and has it sitting at around 47 mpg for his usual uni commute, what a waste.  :y :y
