Not even for the cars or era of cars I suggested above? We hired a car in the mid 80's in the States with the fuel filler behind the number plate (Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme) so they must be around.

My 72 SS Camaro and 77 Pontiac Pariesiene were both fitted with fuel fillers behind flip number plates
