Title: Radio codes
Post by: Salty on 23 July 2006, 13:56:48
Does anybody know if you go to VX with your car chassis/reg no if they can tell you what the radio code is for your vehicle? that's assuming it still has the factory fit stereo!

You can get the vehicle security card, it has the Key number, vehicle security code (required to programme a new key) and the radio code....its about 15 quid ish....

Yep, iirc, its called carpass. As mark says, £15 ish from dealer, BUT you have to prove ownership, so ring dealer to find out what they need first, eg logbook etc...

Thanks for the tip, hopefully my V5 will have arrived by the time I get home :)

Or try popping the radio out. You would not believe the number I have seen over the years with the code written on the unit itself!

bought one a couple of weeks ago for mine ...  £16 + VAT (£18.80). Took the V5 with me which was good enough. Dealer gave me a hand-written note with the codes a day or so afterwards, the proper car pass arrived in the post about a week later. Turns out that I didn't need the code when removing the head unit after all (Siemens NCDC2013) ...  ::)

I've got the philips sc804 with autochanger in the boot, so probably will need the code.

The older ones have seperate code for radio and for the cd changer in boot.

I found that out when i fitted my CID, apparently the headunit/display are married and are coded for your ecu through tech2. You can remove them from your own car for as long as you want, they'll still work when you connect them all together again.

If however you fit the headunit or screen to another car, which obvoiuosly would have a different ecu and immob. code than your own it would then lock up.

So my local Vauxhall service chappy says.

Not quite, the display and unit are coded together and not to the ECU at all so the two have to stay together.

Which means you can swap the pair over to another car but cant fit a second hand display or unit to an existing install unless it has been de-associated with tech 2 first.

That sounds a bit more sensible.  :)

There are forums that will give the info for free, but I do not think its right to discuss them here...

The carpass is handy, as you will get all the codes - radio, cd, key, immobilser etc...

Took the radio out the other day, code not written on radio but that would have been too much too ask :(

Put radio back in and it worked, no code required :) and cd changer still worked :)

Some radios are coded to display screen (so as long as still working with screen, all OK), some are coded in the old way. Those coded the old way, it is possible to disable the security...

don't let the dealer screw you - I've heard horrors of some wanting £25 + VAT for it. Thieving sods...

Ring round a few dealers.
