Your Next Holiday Abroad
« on: 01 July 2020, 22:32:35 »

So far I've had two holdays cancelled this year (still waiting on refunds, thanks easyJet  ::) )

I've got flights booked for Oct 28th to Fuerteventura, as I hope by then the 'new normal' will be well-seasoned.

Just wondering if anyone has any future plans for a Holiday abroad?  When and where do you plan to go?  Are you worried bout it?  Do you think you will actually travel?

I am hoping to go to Gran Canaria in late November, but not booked anything yet as work is still up in the air :-\ That said, I've got four shifts booked off between now and Christmas... 4on/4off has distinct perks as that's 44 days off, including August Bank Holiday weekend and half of September  :D

Worst case I work for a spell and go away for three weeks next year.

It's a shift I've never worked. It's not a shift I'd choose though ...  :-\

I found 4on 4off to be brutal. But then I was working two of them at the same time - for different companies obviously. So much for being a lazy student, I haven't worked as hard since!!  ;D

As to the OP question, nothing planned for 2020, China in January felt like a dodged bullet, plus I have a house to renovate. Again.

As for 2020, it's SWMBO's 40th so I'd better get something planned. ;D friends are planning a US trip to watch some NFL which I might tag on to. So that's either Boston, Florida or LA.  :y

I've always liked adventure travel, so I thought I'd go to a Covid hotspot on a 737 Max!  :D

Just received refund of a flight cost from EJ after 6 weeks. They are - currently - refusing to refund part of the car hire cost, claiming I should have cancelled the car hire via ‘manage my booking’ despite telling me, in the cancellation email, to do so ‘directly with the service provider’, which I did.
Hmmm, we shall see, barrister daughter is on the case. Any bets?

I did that for 15 years ... initially Mon to Fri 10 till 6 then later did 3 nights a week 6 till 6. Worked great when the kids were little but wouldn't do it now. The odd night shift recently has just reminded me I wouldn't want to do nights on a permanent basis now  :y

Depends if it was a package booked through them or separately. They may have, mistakenly, got this wrong. Or they may, surreptitiously, have done it to spread the cash drain.

I suspect that by the end of August, once the cash flow has returned to a degree of steadiness, everyone will have been refunded.

It isn't right, but equally it's easy to see why travel companies might do this, or freely offer vouchers over the booking value. Put another way, if had to refund 100,000 customers a day for four months. From your savings. What would YOU do?

Traditionally done 12 hour shifts but current job, if I get back to it :-X, is 8 - 6, which feels almost part time ;D

My four weekly rota is 10 nights and two days. Nights during the week is 1700 - 0800. Weekend is 1930 - 0730. Days are 0730 - 1930.
My body clock is fooked. Sleep pattern all over the place. The only answer for me is, when Im not at work and Im tired to sleep, regardless of time of day.
I doubt I will ever have a normal sleep pattern again.
Should have listened more at school.  ::) ;D

That's the days/nights switching ;)

Companies like it because they can pay a single rate and still get 24/7 cover and it looks reasonable because everyone does the same.

The reality is that the morning people hate working nights and the night people really hate getting up at 4/5 am. So it screws everyone up. And the money is never enough ;D

Had hoped to go to Cyprus in July , and away every other month from May in the UK in the caravan , not going anywhere at the present time & neither of us would consider flying anywhere until things improve vastly, if they ever will remains to be seen personally I'm not that bothered as we have travelled abroad a lot over the years.
