tried to put up full size ones but they were too big for the page formatting, so clickable thumbnails it is.
She's my new baby and will receive much car and attention in the foreseeable future.

General Car Chat / What economical estate to replace the mig?
« on: 26 July 2011, 23:17:30 »
So it looks like the mig will be sold this week.
I cant afford anything less that around 50mpg on average at the moment doing 25k + a year at the moment.

So....I am unfortunately looking elsewhere in the car market for something more economical and just as good as the omega...(if such a thing exists).

i have a few options on the table.
It looks like the most i will have to spend is £1500.

I need a similar size boot space to the mig estate, but could "make do" with less.

The cars i've had in mind are:

Mondeo estate 130bhp 6 speed tdci (so after an 02 plate, if i can get one cheap enough)
Pug 406 Hdi 110 estate (been offered one with only 115k for £650)
Pug 306 Hdi 90 estate (been offered a 2000 plate one with 138k on for £800)
Vw Passat estate (after 2000 plate with a PD diesel engine, preferably the 130bhp)

Any comments about these, and things to look out for?
Or any suggestions about alternatives?

I would like a good spec level and comfort if possible.

thanks

I knew i needed to go after lowering and new wishbones, but just not had the time...nor the extra cash to drive the 300 miles round trip.

this is what the front have ended up like...

Mixture of lowering and toe out.
Dont think i've ever let them get that bad before.

I wondered why it was a bit loose in the wet  ;D

oops.

Chucked my 15's back on the front for now, i dont mind chewing the tyres off them till i get to wim. Got new tyres to go on the 16's already.

General Car Chat / My new PI lowering springs
« on: 23 May 2011, 16:30:19 »
Just arrived in the post today.
Quick postage, and more importantly...shockingly cheap price.
So much so i was half expecting them to be the wrong ones.

but low and behold, they are the right ones for my car.

as found here: http://www.pi-suspension.co.uk/pi-spring-kit-sportpack-vauxhall-omega-estate-6-cylinder-b-1994-lowers-35mm-60168_p1253976.htm

might have a chance to fit them tomorrow.
Exhaust needs to be done first, and then rear doughnuts, and front wishbones.....then lowering springs, then WIM.

all the parts are just sitting in my house. But i now have the time to get on with it all.
wish me luck  ::)

Only took an hour to doth both sides, but still. lots of levering and tapping and then trying to align the stupid subframe bolts...

Went in eventually though, and I'm glad i did it, because they were completely shot.
Already noticed massive difference in back end tightness.

Here are the old ones i took out
Not the best pictures, only on my phone, sorry

but the inside is completely separated from the metal.
and was very easy to move about.

General Car Chat / Fitted HID's and new grill (now with pics)
« on: 18 May 2011, 14:56:08 »
finally managed to get round to wiring in my HID's.
They look so much nicer on the car, with those clear lenses and whatnot.

Grill is one i just got off ebay recently.
Will get some pictures up in a bit.

As for wiring, the only sod in fitting the lights was the off side one. for some reason, due to the design of the light or the position of the front cross member, for the life of me i could not get the light through the gap.

ended up having to remove the hard back casing of the HID compartment and then it slid straight in.
Absolute SOB to get access to on the inside then to put the screws back in....

done now tho. and very happy.

http://www.draigbusiness.co.uk/bookara/

Been looking for one of these in south wales for ages....and VOILA!
Finally.

When i spoke to him in person at a gig (where i saw his van), he said he'd do it for £7 an hour for me, with access to all tools, 4 post and 2 post ramps, air tools, mechanic on hand to help if i get stuck with anything, Access to welder and gas for stuck nuts and bolts (small extra charge)

I'm fitting my exhaust here next week, and going to do my rear doughnuts here too, and possibly wishbones if its easy enough on a 2 post.

what do you think?

General Car Chat / Just drove back from scotland
« on: 24 April 2011, 00:04:19 »
Just driven from Fort william to Swansea and then back to cardiff (via Kidsgrove in stoke).
Was 570 miles in total, and i managed it on one tank of fuel with miles to spare.
Was up there for a holiday with family.

Think i averaged 43mpg or so, sitting at 70mph on the M6 and M5.

I stopped at stoke to pick up a full set of leather seats for my car and some elite alloys and tyres that i bought from darth loo knee.

Somehow managed to shoehorn it all in as well as our bags etc.
was mm to spare lol

Thanks Darth!!
