General Discussion Area / MOT Pass

Not the usual kind, though. G-EELT passed her annual airworthiness review this evening with a couple of advisories.

Harness straps are probably due a refurb before next year. The sealing tape on the ailerons had shrunk and was starting to restrict the full movement of the control surfaces. Wheel brake sticking a little and, the usual one. Needs to be taken out and flown more rather than getting damp in the trailer. :-[

A big thanks to sethsmate for organising the trip to the Welland steam and country rally.  :y

Sethsmate, dad1uk and myself along with lots of new friends had a great weekend and plenty of OOF banter along with a bit of reminiscing, plenty of barbecued nosh and, of course, the "odd" pint. ::)

More pictures to follow, but here's a few for starters...

It really wasn't easy to capture the scale of this show. Something for everyone... Like a nice all-steam powered fun fair. Bu66er the environment!

One or two stationary engines..

(measures MV6 engine bay)

Military vehicles, anyone?

A tractor or two and, in the background, a field being ploughed the old fashioned way...

.. a chance for some to enjoy their childhood.. and others to re-live theirs. ::)

"This is the last time I let Grandad drive!" ;D

A tractor pull with a difference (yes, they trounced anything with an internal combustion engine!)

Couldn't help but take a photo of this one for AmigoMX5  ;) Sorry about the white balance.

General Discussion Area / Gayphones
« on: 24 July 2011, 02:19:38 »
Went to to a concert tonight and, it seems, practically everyone in the audience was determined to burn everyone's retinas out with a high intensity white LED as they filmed their uphill-gardening mates "at the concert", before deciding they ought perhaps to be watching the band instead - through the screen of their gayphone, of course, while filming it.

.. Because a gayphone with a minute, crap, plastic lens is, of course, ideal for recording video in low-light conditions. ::)

"Those blobs at the top of the screen are the lights , and those blobs at the bottom of the screen that are bouncing around in time to the music, are the band."

Whatever happened to just getting plastered and enjoying the music? >:( That's what I did, anyway. ;D

General Discussion Area / A few pictures for the nostalgists

Faced with an urge to get out of the house on New year's day I decided to check out the classic car meet at the Brooklands museum...

Can't really appreciate the scale of it from these photos but I've brought back a couple for Guy ;) and the first car I came across after walking through the gate... An Opel GT :-*

You pop to the stealers in your 3.2 saloon at lunch time for 20 litres of oil and 5 litres of coolant. Chuck same in the boot along with the shovel that's a remnant of the recent snowy weather.

You come to pull out of the stealers' car park. It's a busy road and you need to turn right. You spot a gap between an approaching car to your left and one that's just passed from the right.

Do you:

1) Be patient. There'll be a larger gap soon.
2) Unleash everything the V6 has got to give and then wonder what the "thud" and subsequent smell of antifreeze emanating from the boot was all about.

Just been to see Squeeze in concert supported by the Lightning Seeds. Looked like a bunch of old men shuffling onto the stage but boy, have they still "got it". :y

Can certainly recommend it if there's a venue near you. http://www.squeezeofficial.com/

Check out the first customer review.

Sometimes you get a shot across the bows that says perhaps you should leave the computer alone for a while. ;D

.. not only for giving me the motivation to pull my finger out and finish stripping down the Westfield.

.. and not only for helping out spanner wielding yesterday evening to sort out the last few details.

but also for towing a trailer all the way down here  (let's face it, I'm almost in France) and towing it back up to Westfield with the chassis on.

Much
appreciated.  :y
