Title: petrol (self driven ) lawnmower
Post by: raywilb on 21 September 2019, 11:57:06
the lawnmower that i have is a typical pull start job. on starting its always been a bit hard to start & when it is going it is slightly backfiring  . near to me there is a service place that sells & repairs all types of machines. i spoke to one of their fitters and he told me that because modern petrol contains ethanol small machinery that,s not on daily use can get a small amount of water in the fuel tank causing the problem. apparently there is a product that when added to petrol alleviates the issue. when i asked him what it was he just said bring the machine in & for £50 plus time & any bits they would sort it. spark plug ,air filter are ok. just need to know what the additive is.  :-\ :y

B&S suffer carb diaphragm fails, rebuild kits are cheap any water in the float bowl will be dumped when you clean the carb
you've not said what make/model engine it is  :-\
don't leave any petrol in a mower over winter ,or have Jerry cans of old fuel
don't waste money on an additive that claims to remove water
if you look on youtube Mustie1 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcSeeATlWJJbXpOZRYOfaDg) shows loads of small engine repairs, lawn mowers etc

Due to all sorts of reasons, its best not to buy too much petrol for the mower.  And keep most of it in a petrol can, sealed.

Thats on top of other suggestions :)

Looks a nice little bit of kit that Ron. Slight problem with the listing though. Location says London. Business address is Ballynahinch, Co. Down. Also the business owner in Ballynahinch is apparently Gareth Sanchez-Maldonado.
If theres a bloke in Ballynahinch by that name, the place has certainly changed since I was last there !
40,000 feedback though, so should be ok I would imagine.

Indeed, that looks suspect to me.  And we all know how much I trust eBay sellers.

When you have finished cutting the lawn, switch off petrol tap and let it run out of fuel.and die......dont leave fuel in the carb bowl... it will scrap the carb over time clogging up jets causing it to surge  :y

Adding a little meths will emulsify with the water and then burn it with the petrol.
