Omega General Help / Re: EP90 Diff Oil
« on: 17 March 2022, 16:16:56 »
Thanks for the info. The plate has gone from the diff. Will keep looking for a diff, just incase the oil change doesn't help the one on the car.

Would this diff fit, as it off a 2.2 four cylinder Auto?

If it turns out that the diff, is knackered. Can I fit a diff from any other model? The car is a 1995 2ltr 16V estate petrol Automatic. Would I be able to say fit a diff from a later 2.2, 2.5, 2.6 or even from a 3 and 3.2 ltr. I would imaging the fixing points are the same, between the estates and saloons?

Thanks for all the help.

Hi stemo

I don't think he would want my rear end. According to the misses. ;D

Thanks Nick W. I will go on your recommendation. Nothing like a pretty bottle sitting in the workshop. :D

Omega General Help / EP90 Diff Oil

Sorry to bother everyone. The wifes car has developed a noise in the back, that seems to be similar to how some old roof racks sounded when driving, similar to a Droning noise, that starts around 30mph and gets louder as you increase speed.  I have swapped known good tyres off mine, onto the back to eliminate tyre noise.

I have ordered two bearing kits, just incase, but was going to check fluid level in diff first, but wandered if this is the stuff I need to top it up?

I proved positive Wednesday. Felt rough before that, coughing liked I smoke like a chimney(i don't smoke) aching body and feeling as in a heatwave. It appears that my misses brought it home, from a club she goes too. It is starting to clear, just a bit of a cough left. Rang the Drs to cancel a appointment, I had a few days later. The receptionist said "congratulations on winning the booby prize"

When I had a leak, that I couldn't find on my omega. I made the pressure test cap in the maintenance section, then used a tyre compressor set to 15psi. It found the leak in the radiator.  The caps are cheap to buy, if you goto a tyre place they would probably give you a valve. If not they are cheap enough on EBAY.  The other advantage is you can look all around the engine as it doesn't need starting.

Omega General Help / Re: Front brake caliper
« on: 08 March 2022, 16:54:34 »
Just a quick update on the Brakes on my 2002 2.6 Auto. The square seal inside the brake caliper piston chamber, was worn also the piston itself was pitted but the actual chamber is damage free. So got new bleeder valves. They are shorter but do shut off the bleed chamber. Also got the Big Red caliper repair kit with new pistons. It only comes with silicone grease in it. I put the caliper to soak in a Electrolysis bath, to remove all the crud, then wire brushed it, also got some soft dremel wire brushes, to clean out both the seal and dust cover slotsnow it looks alot better.

I have a EEZIBLEED KIT, which I understand work great. I was thinking of doing a full flush, on the system. As it just past with 50% breaking efficiency on the MOT. I did seal off the brake hose on the caliper, before removing it. With the EEZIBleed would it be as simple, do the normal bleed routine. If there is any air in the ABS, which I am hoping there isn't. Would the EEZibleed push it out? I do have access to "My Naff Code Reader", that I have read can activate the ABS. But do I need to know anything, like the version of ABS on the car?

The play in the ball joint on mine, was found at the MOT station. When they check for play in bearings, you could see the play when either side of the cars wheel, was moved with his hands at 9 and 3 oclock, he got me too do the movement check, while he looked at all the joints, then he got me to look at the joint in question on the centre piece, as he moved a wheel. The joint was that lose, the play showed up on the opposite side wheel, to the one being moved.  Maybe get both sides of the car up, then do the same as was done on mine, with someone watching the joints.

Agree +1 with Dave the Builder. I have had loads of stuff from these two, with no problems.

The only thing to make sure whatever one you purchase, is that the track rod ball joints on the ends on your car fit. Mine didn't fit, they were the original ones.

Don't dismantle everything. The way I did it, is too get the ignition lock to come on with the wheels straight ahead.  Then undid the power steering arm to centre piece, at the ball joint, the arm was rusted tight onto mine. Then the inner track rod ends to it. Then undid the steering idler at the nut, so the whole middle piece came off with idler stillattached. To remove the steering idler, I just held the arm, and knocked the ball joint from it, by hitting the top of it with a hammer.

Putting the new one on, I started with fitting the power steering arm to the new middle piece first. This gave me a quick reference, when fitting everything else on. I fitted the steering idler onto the middle piece, leaving it lose to allow fitting back to the spindle on the side of the passenger side. Then fitted both the inner track rods onto it. Once everything was connected, everything was torqued up. Definately get it tracked.

Link to the one I bought.

Omega General Help / Re: Fuel pump gaskets

Omega General Help / Fuel pump gaskets
« on: 02 March 2022, 12:04:22 »
Can anyone tell me please, if the gasket under the plate for the fuel pump and the one on the locking piece, can be reused? The wifes Estate Omega smells of petrol. When switched off. She hasn't overfilled it, as I asked. Fuel cap is ok and the seals inside the filler area look OK. I have looked under the inspection plate. The top of the fuel pump plate, with the two outlets is dry. So was going to check underneath the plate, incase the pipes have rotted. (I hope not, only found one replacement, so far and it is stupid money.)

If the pipes are OK is there anywhere else I can look? The smell is definately from the back of the car.

Thanks in advance for any help.
