Worst part wasn't the bump, but rather the hour and a half on the phone reporting it to my insurers >:( just to get a reference number to leave on the note along with an apology so that all they need to do is ring my insurers and the damage will be sorted with the minimum of fuss.

Not surprising that people don't bother :-\

Looks like you're all set for French France 8) when are you off?

Monday for just over 2 weeks .. :y :y :y

Bon voyages and all that ;)

Possibly Andy, but depends what was behind it, if anything. Bumper was otherwise perfectly aligned as was boot lid and lights, so ought to be a straightforward cosmetic exercise. I know how pissed I would be if it were my car though, but what a palava to report. An inquisition and I have nothing to claim for... ::)

Looking at the gridlock on M20 yet again ,you will be lucky getting to France anytime soon if travelling down sarf :(

Portsmouth - Caen ... no problems  :y :y
And much nicer area around there than Calais.  Only downside is its a 5hr crossing.

Not sure if they still do the vomit comet crossings to Caen / Cherbourg, but they were significantly quicker.. if you have a strong constitution! Otherwise, leave in the evening, book a cabin, couple of beers on the boat and breakfast in a little Cafe in France. :y

Nah .. leave home at lunch time down to Portsmouth to sail mid afternoon, sit in the sun on the boat and watch the world go by ... nice entrecote bleu for dinner around 6 with a glass of red .. then a pint in the bar, dock around 9.30,  10 minute drive to the site, legs down crack a few beers. Up around 8.30 in the morning, leisurely breakfast, legs up and tow for 5 hours down to the Vendee (including a stop for lunch) getting on site around 3.30 pm ... awning up, crack a beer and start the barbie around 6.00 pm .....   :y :y :y

A separate plastic moulded reinforcement backing, a thin steel bar and then fresh air for about ten inches. That is below the steel bar so at that height the outer bumper will give about an inch of movement before hitting the plastic backing frame. I just pushed mine in to find out.   ::) ;D

Top marks for honesty though Al.  :y
