My Ford broke down today
« on: 01 December 2016, 18:30:51 »

I don't believe it!  ::)

So, lets have a little guess/competition at what was wrong.....or what the garage diagnosed/changed...

Phone call to the garage went like this...

Me....Its broke
Garage...How is it broke
Me...Its got no power...it will rev ok in neutral....put it in gear and try to pull away it keeps cutting out...push the clutch in and it will rev happily ....let the clutch out and it doesn't want to go....oh and it keeps putting up the display "Engine malfunction"
Garage...Whats its saying outside temp is?
Me....-6C
Garage....Let it idle for 30 mins and then try to drive it to us.....if it still wont behave phone us back and we'll get it lifted.

It did behave after 30mins of idling and I drove it to the garage...

When I got there...Garage boss (who I was speaking to on the phone) said it sounded like..................

But said i'll put it on the code reader to see what its complaining about......fault codes came up....and said "yup just as I suspected, we'll get a new........fitted"

So....any ideas? Its a 1.6TD Mondeo....

Nope.....it was that cold this morning, in coldest Swindon...it was reading nearly 90C on temp gauge when it broke down...nearly 90C is normal for it....

MAF, MAP or EGR ? possibly frozen/slushy fuel in the filter?

MAF, MAP or EGR ? possibly frozen/slushy fuel in the filter?

Well done that man  :y

Garage thought it sounded like fuel starvation ...

ECU was complaining of low fuel pressure..

So the Garage thought it was partially clogged fuel filter along with the extreme cold making the diesel a bit thicker than normal....and their idea of letting it idle for 30mins would warm it all up.....the fuel filter is on top of the engine ...

New fuel filter fitted  :)
