Engine support beams...
« on: 03 December 2016, 09:36:28 »

In order to sort the sump leak on my 525, I need to drop the subframe...

To this end I am considering getting one of these...

Seems a lot of money for something you're only likely to use once. There's lots of bits to make it adjustable, for multiple uses.

Scrounge a length of scaffold pole, some box section or hefty angle for the feet, and some chain. That lot and a few minutes welding will easily do the job for a few quid.

It might be sensible to get an adult to do the grinder work ;)

I am guessing that you want the cross beam because the BMW lump is longitudinal / fore & aft  :-\

I will be changing the cambelt on SWMBO's Galaxy TDi soon so watching this thread to see what options people come up with for engine support beams :y

Something like this:

Although a decent length of 100x50 timber with the 100 side vertical and some similar screwed on feet will support even a heavy 6 cylinder BMW engine.

Single beam for under £40 will save you a lot of messing.
