Camber is about the only measurement that can be easily and accurately measured yourself, as it's read directly off the wheelrim. When I fitted new shocks etc to my car we set the camber with a cheap digital magnetic bevel gauge stuck to a length of angle iron cabletied to the wheel. We set them to 1 degree 20 seconds. This was done in the street. When I finally got around to having the alignment checked properly, that was how it measured.

What this doesn't help with is the rest of the geometry, although a string box will enable you to do pretty good job if you have the patience.
