I’ve done it again!!!!!
« on: 29 June 2019, 17:47:32 »

Ok so I’m reverting cams from 3.0 back to 2.5 ones and I didn’t mark the notch of number 2 and 3 camshaft sprockets  :D does anyone know what position the notch should be when fitting back the sprockets?? Everything else is mark up  ;)

Is it covered by Haynes?

The numbers are cast into the face of each sprocket near to the relevant notches (a 1 & a 2 on the short bank 1 sprockets and a 3 and a 4 on the longer bank 2 sprockets)

It’s the actual notch position on the end of cams where the sprocket fits onto. All the sprockets are marked up correctly it’s cams 2 and 3 that are messed up

It's 15+ years since I rebuilt the engine in my 1994 2.5 v6 but my recollection was that there was a peg in the end of the camshaft and it engaged with a groove in the end of the taper on the camsprocket.

I think there is only one way the sprocket will fit :-\

I don't remember trying to position the cams before fitting the sprockets. (but it was a long time ago)

My inclination is to take notice of the VX training guide but I do wonder if there is  something 'special' about your sprockets :-\

I had my crankshaft at about 30 degrees BTDC so all the pistons were safe distance down the bores to avoid valve contact.

Sprockets are numbered, 1234, when you put the sproket on the cam, the timing marks on the back plate should line up, sproket 1, lines up,etc, no1 being nearest drivers side wing. and the 1 should be at the top , this may be wrong, the sprokets are all the same, it's just were you line them up that's different.

Last one I rebuilt was 4years ago,and cam belt 2 years.
