Ncdc2013
« on: 05 June 2020, 14:50:22 »

Hi all
Quick question
I’ve got Someone breaking a 3.2 elite
It’s has the ncdc 2013 with the colour display
If I bought the unit and the display ( as I’ve read on here they are paired )
Are those the only two things I need to fit them in my car as mine has the ccr2006
I know I’ll have to add some extra wires for the Rgb display , that’s in the top connector
And the antenna for the satnav (wich I won’t need so I leave that )
Is there any thing else I need to know or add
Just want the stereo working with the colour display and for it to show car info like mpg etc

Need to know if Bose or not - if different from your car will need configuring for which I believe you'll need the pairing code (on the car pass)

Screen will need programming to match the code index of your vehicle - ie. wheel size, engine size, gearbox type etc unless donor and recepient vehicles are identical, don't think you need the pairing code for that.

Bit of fiddly wiring and may have to swap the cage (can't remember if CCR2006 has a cage with the centre slot in it, plus it may not have the hole for the nav antenna connector.

Do not want to appear negative, but I have now had two of these units on which the CD player has packed up, no doubt due to the age of these electronics.  So, if you want the CD function, just check it works before undertaking all the work to install the unit.

Some on here have also added a USB port or similar to bring the NCDC 2013 right up to date. ;)

As Lizzie says .. the CD units are renowned for failing, especially if "home burned" CDs are used in them .. it completely knackers the laser lens guide. New lasers used to be available from Germany, very fiddly to change but not actually difficult, although if heavy handed there are a couple of ribbon cables you can mess up easily (don't ask how I know ... :)  ). I got away with it because I obtained a broken unit to practice on before I attempted mine .. which worked for another 8 years ....  when I sold the car it went with another replacement laser I had purchased but not got round to fitting.

It’s coming out of a 3.2 elite saloon
Mine is 2.6 elite saloon
My car has Bose and I guess this unit would have Bose too
I’ll see the setup when I go down to pull it out
The seller hasn’t replied as he said he has a buyer for the screen before I enquired for the stereo and screen
I’ve told him the screen on its own won’t work with another unit Unless paired so waiting for response
I guess I would take the cage of him too
Fingers crossed the he comes back with screen and unit
I know about the cd units laser issues but I would probably end up using a fm transmitter on it to play of my phone
The new cig lighter sockets ones ain’t too bad in terms of quality
I’ve always wanted one as they make the dash look so much cooler lol
So to confirm if I buy the headunit and the screen together apart from the Extra wiring for the screen
I don’t need to do anything else ???
The seller has no paperwork for the car so no pass or codes etc

If your lucky your loom will already have the plug. If so it will be taped up somewhere near to where the screen fits.
Mine did, although its an Elite and I was swapping from GID to CID display. Might be worth popping your current info screen out to have a look for the plug ?
Probably still need a tech 2 session for a bit of reconfiguring for engine differences.

Yes, both being Elite V6 means the programming of screen shouldn't be required unless the 2.6 is a Manual  :y

Help please
So I’ve managed to get the stereo and display
The seller had already cut the loom from the back
So I’ve got about 6” with of loom from the cage
And I also cut the additional loom from the car that goes into the display as mine didn’t have the spare connector behind the dash
I’ve copied alll the wires for the audio and power so iso connector reconnected

Now the new units top connector has extra wires
I copied the ones that were colour matching on to the top of the iso wich matchied into the existing loom

So I’m left with few extra wires
I’ve connected the small connector that goes into the display I’ve matched about 5 wires but no display

The display comes on
Vauxhall sign
Gives me the footbrake warning sign and then disappears when brake pressed
But nothing coming from the stereo
I have still few extra wires
These are
canh (green wire)
canl   ( white wire )
Rev   ( white with black wire )
Syn    ( white wire )

When I turn the stereo on the radio plays
No display on the screen
I can’t do anything other than change volume from stereo or buttons on steering
TIA

I’ve done some searching thanks to this forum
And connected canh and canl to puns 10 & 11 on the large connector on the display
I’ve got car info showing now
Still have spare wires
Rev ( white/ black wire )
Ter  ( white wire )

White/Black is for reverse lights
White - What pin number (either end) do you have for this?

Right so I’ve got most of it working
I’ve left the rev wire out pin 29 on the iso

I’ve got some info from a vectra forum
Where it tells me to connect
ISO-block pin 33 ( canh) and pin 25 (ter)together to CID pin 19
But in the omega I’ve connected these to Pin 10 on the larger connector on the cid

Everything seems to work
Apart from the stalk button
Normally when you get check light eg bulb out you can go through them via stalk
But now that is not working
I can go through them in the stereo

You don't use the stalk buttons with NCDC (hence why the stalk is changed on retrofits) you use the steering wheel controls

Check CAN connections, if OK when does message appear? When on tuner, CD autochanger or Nav?

As soon as ignition is turned on
It’ll display footbrake message so I clear that by pressing brake
Then it’ll show washer fluid low , I can clear that with the button on the stereo

Now here’s the issue
When I turn ignition on
It doesn’t turn the radio on I have to turn it on manually from power button
If i do this straight after Turing the ignition on , I can use the stereo
I get about 30 seconds before display safe is displayed
I can pretty much do any function , radio cd or cdc but once display safe is displayed then I’m pretty much blind operating
I can’t test nav as i don’t have a nav disc but a music disc plays in that slot

When I turn ignition off radio stays on
Until I switch it off manually

So there’s no ignition control on the stereo
I’ve checked the ignition live feed to the stereo ( thin red wire ) and that shows 12v when key is turned so that’s working

I’ve tried checking all wires for broken or incorrect but a bit lost now

Display Safe is generally the display isn't paired to the radio,  If the display changes between Nav/BC/Tuner/CDC etc, then CAN is working, so likely a pairing problem.  If it doesn't, CAN wiring issue

Ignore Vectra-C forums, their displays aren't the same as Omega/Astra-G ones.

I have a non Bose NCDC 2013 sat here with a matching colour screen.
The cd cartridge doesn't want to eject and the flap fell off years ago but other then looking a little rough, it works well.
I know these are a easy ish fix if you don't mind tinkering for a hour.

If your interested, PM me.
Its only sat around gathering dust so it will be very reasonably priced   ;)

Pm sent so that I can weigh my options on this
Tbh I would rather have it coded
As both the cd changer and Nav section cd are working
Plus it’s bosed
So just waiting to see how much it’ll cost

Your trouble is, I believe you don't have the pairing codes, or can even guarantee that both items were ever paired.

Whilst I can discover the pairing code of the headunit, if the screen has a different pairing code, you're knackered.

To get an idea of what I charge, see https://theboy.omegaowners.com/tech2/prices.shtml although I'm too far south to assist you.

They both came out the same car
However I don’t know the history of the car they came out of
Nor did the owner have any pass code or paperwork for the car key was breaking
I guess your right because I don’t know the history it might not be paired at all
But when I removed the unit and screen it didn’t look like they had been tampered with before.
This is turning out to be a Costly Experiment

This is turning out to be a Costly Experiment
The stuff is much, much cheaper now, but when I was trying to crack these, I must have spent thousands on these. Mind you, I had loads of them, including a dozen or so that I had in the garage when that blew up.

I've given all my NCDC's and displays away now, except one spare set that I keep as a spare for my own Omega.

I probably know more about these units than is healthy ;D.

I'm secretly hoping that your NCDC201x has lost its programming (which happens sometimes), and thus the message you are getting.  If that is the case, I know I can recover it (assuming no other faults).  But if the display has a different pairing code to the headunit, I can't.  My doubts are coming in because an unpaired NCDC normally gives Radio Safe, not just Display Safe.

Hope that's clear-ish.  There are a lot of combinations all giving similar messages, making remote diags inconclusive.

Whilst installing it
And trying to get the wires in the right order ( wich I think I’ve finally got )
I did get the message radio safe uswell
I still have two spare wires
(Rev) this is for the revers I believe and doesn’t have to be connected
The second is (ter) white wire I’ve also left this out as it wouldn’t do anything when connected
I did originally link this to canh wich is also white
But it didn’t do anything
The issue I have is this
1. The ignition key has no control over the stereo ( it won’t turn it off or on )
2. If I leave the ignition key off and disconnect the canh and canl wires and then reconnect them
The stereo is fully operational and won’t go into safe mode
I can then eve I turn the ignition on and start the car
Stereo will continue to work
The moment I turn the stereo of and back on again that’s when it showes display safe after about 25 seconds and then it’ll Keep doing that until I disconnect canh and canl again and then reconnect
Maybe me messing around with it whilst wiring it up has caused a issue

Received item last week
Installed on the weekend and running fine
And then yesterday I had the sound cutting out intermittently

The unit just goes silent
No volume at all
Cd radio or Nav
Cd seems to run and play as it shows on the screen but no sound
Same with radio I can select channel etc but no sound
Is there a wire that tells the unit to mute apart from the telephone one
As that’s already been checked

No, not really, although CAN is able to mute the HU for Telematics input.

Was the new Head Unit Bose enabled?

It’s not Bose enabled
And I’m not running a amp
The sound cuts off intermittently
If the black mute wire is grounded then it shows external audio on the display
It’s not that

I’ve tried the Balance and fader controls to run each speaker at a time And also disconnected all speakers to run one channel at time To eliminate a bad speaker
It’s not making any difference
It happens at different volume levels
When driving it’ll cut in and it can’t tell if it happens when going over a bump as this would suggest a bad connection somewhere

I’ve got so many issues at the same time lol
I’m having proper fun with this car

Ah OK, I'm with you now.

Could be a failing amp stage in the head unit I guess.

Sometimes the ISO loom can chaff on the H/U cage intermittently when it doesn't sit correctly behind it.

Don't suppose the car has Trafficmaster or just a Trafficmaster loom installed?

Not sure about the wiring
I’ve checked all the wiring
Wiggled and giggled to no effect
Sound will come and go randomly

Is the air pipe in the back of the head unit aperture still connected and blowing air at the back of the unit? I had an NCDC retrofitted in a previous Omega that would freeze the NAV function when it got hot, solved by opening up the air pipe that had been crushed.

I will check that
But I’m having this issue whilst the unit is still cold, Surely it would take time to warm up after a while of play

Would have thought so, Nb. there is also a fan on the L/H upper chassis of the HU as well. Just trying to think of possibilities.....

Not sure which board the inbuilt amp is on, if its the rear one you can swap that between units but not sure if Bose/Non-Bose config is held on there.

Just a thought.........
Will the head unit amp cut out the sound if you short the positive and negative speaker wires out on one of the channels out ?
If you have removed various components, maybe you have a intermittent short on the speaker wires somewhere ?

I’ve already check this by disconnecting all channels and connecting one at a time

There is a telemute line, but will cause "External Audio" to appear on display. As VXL V6 says, there is a CAN based mute for telematics, but that brings up "Phone" on the display from memory.

So sounds the output stage is shutting down.  Check the 2 screws that go through the top of the case into the small heatsink are in place - the case acts as part of the heatsink.

If the output stage is trash, but your old output stage from previous NCDC works, you can always swap the rear board (only) over. Don't swap front board or CDC, else you will bugger up the pairing.

Thanks I’ll give that a go
It’s definitely not the telemute wire

Also
I’ve noticed my radio reception seems to be on and off
Not in sync with the sound and off so a separate issue
The radio reception comes in and out and I’ve noticed that the buttons on the steering will light up when I’ve got reception
So now I’m thinking the the 12v signal provided to the radio Ariel also activated the steering button lights
What can cause this to pulse on and off like on for 1 second and then off for about 3 and then repeating
The time is also not setting itself with Rds

Reception issues usually down to damaged aerial cable / plug on the back of the Head Unit cage which happens when the cage has been in and out a few times, this also would account for the RDS clock setting not working.

The feed for the steering wheel controls is from the Headunit hence why they stay on on NCDC equipped cars for 5 or so mins after locking the car. Never seen the steering wheel control illumination have the problem you describe, sounds more like a problem on the loom / plug to the head unit.

Given the multitude of issues you are seeing might it be worth testing the alternator output and checking the earth straps - especially the one at the front of the engine.

Just another thought, when you removed the Bose from this car how did you re-route the outputs? Did you use a none Bose turnaround connector? The switched 12V for the rear audio components is derived from that connector.

Engine was replaced in the car few years back
Car was parked up for a few years
So maybe that’s something I can look into
But battery seems to charge fine and no other electrical issues

The speaker output wires in the loom at the back of the stereo Have a black tubing around them
The Bose units use these 8 wires to send a pre amp signal to the Bose amp
And then the Bose amp sends the amplified signal into the same colour co-ordinated wires in to the speakers
All I did was to couple the wires to the same colours
For the front speakers
And for the rear shelf I connected the the wires direct to the speakers
That’s left me with three wires
Power red
Ground brown
And 12v signal red/white
I just insulated them

Yep it's the red/white wire that powers the aerial amp if I remember correctly.

Got a few problems sorted
First of all the radio reception
I swapped the two red/white wires back of the stereo

Secondly the Earth strap under the car was completely knackered
So replaced that and cleaned up the one near the battery tray
I’m only getting 12.5v whilst car is started
So alternator could be on its way
Although don’t have any starting or charging issues

Sound not cutting out anymore fingers crossed
Still don’t know exactly what caused it

Rds time updates whilst I got it on a radio Channel
When I switch back to to cd changer And leave car it stops updating and falls back until I go back to a Rds station

But that’s not a issue right now I’m glad I got the sound problem resolved , I think

Is anyone willing to help with the connection from ccr2006 to ncdc2013 ... I have ccr2006 and mid screen and I managed to find ncdc2013 and cid screen ... can anyone help with installation and switching wires and adding? Not sure what to do. No need for navigation. In my country that don't work so I only want to use bc and music nothing else.
