Omega General Help / Re: Misfire code 0300
« on: 08 July 2021, 18:09:00 »
Sorry, code is 0300 (random misfire)
Plug wells are dry on bank 2, 4 and 6, and I thought they were fine on 1, 3 and 5. When I checked plug well 5 was anything but dry! I cannot understand how there was water down there, fairly sure it was water - clear(ish) and no smell.
Dried it out and the misfire appears to be sorted.
Thanks for your help guys, yet again!  :y

Omega General Help / Misfire code 0300
« on: 08 July 2021, 12:25:25 »
i have an annoying misfire on my 02 2.6 Hasn’t been used since I changed the timing belt etc a couple of months ago, it started fine after that and seemed to run ok.
I have checked and rechecked all of the connections which would have been disturbed during this job, all appear ok. I have also replaced the spark plugs on cylinders 2, 4, and 6, I did the other three not long ago.
When I start her up there is no misfire, a gentle increase of revs and still no misfire, allow her to drop back to idle and she ticks over nicely for a couple of seconds but the the misfire appears. A quick blip of the throttle up to 2000 rpm and the misfire is obvious.
I have done the pedal trick and the codes are 1650, 0650, 0460 and 0330.
Any ideas / suggestions?

Success! Well at least it didn’t go ‘BANG’ when I started her up  :o

Thanks for all your help and advice, especially Addy - see you Tuesday.  :y

Later kits only had one adjustable pulley.
Which is what you have.

Sounds sensible, but how does this affect the setting of the idlers? The dvd says to set the top idler arrow at 12 o’clock and the lower one at 3 o’clock, do I just set the top one at 12?

So I finally managed to get the locking kit to fit! Everything looks fine, timing marks line up etc.

Remove the idlers and backing plate, belt off, check that the new backing plate is the same and start to reassemble. Then I notice that the separate idler is different, it does not have the large adjustment nut with directional arrow?

I fit it anyway, thinking that they may have just changed the design slightly. Everything appears to fit ok, timing marks on the belt line up, but the belt round sprockets 1 and 2 seems a bit slack?

Anyone come across this change to the separate idler?

It is a Conti kit, so not some cheap copy.

Omega General Help / Struggling to fit cam locking kit
« on: 21 May 2021, 08:53:37 »
Morning all.

I am in the process of replacing the timing belt on my 2.6, having borrowed a locking kit from a helpful OOF member.

I have got the engine stripped down and the cam cover off, rotated to tdc and the timing looks spot on, as expected because DLK did it. However I am struggling to fit the locking kit.

The crank locking tool which fits over the crank isn’t a good fit, it appears to be too tight, obviously I am not going to force it! I expected it to slide over, locating easily on the two flats.

The knurled bolt to hold it in place doesn’t line up with any of the threaded holes, it is about 2mm off.

Also one of the cam locking tools fits smoothly, cams 3 and 4, but there is no way the other is going in.

I have rotated the crank to tdc several times to check but still no joy.

I have done the job before but on an older 2.5 so I know what should happen, and I have studied the OOF dvd carefully.

Any ideas?

Anyone know if these kits are any good? £30 on a well known internet selling site.  :y

When it first started to misbehave a sharp tap did indeed help, gone way past that stage now  :(

The screen is either plain white or has lots of grey vertical lines. I have checked the seating of the ribbon cable and it looks ok.

No beeping noise from the radio.

CD cartridge jammed inside unit, sat nav will not read any disc, and now the screen has died!  :(
I can cope with the lack of CD player and Sat Nav, it is the lack of screen which annoys the most.

I am aware it is a long shot but I am looking for a working NCDC and paired GID from a 2.6 to transplant into my 02 plate 2.6 Elite.
