Rugbys hidden head ache.

Broadcast on the BBC's news channel for some reason. Looks into concussion in Rugby. Two young lads playing at amature level, wearing head bands that record impact level, recorded impact levels of up to 69g higher than a car crash. Although that would depend on the car crash too of course.

Some instances in New Zealand among professional players saw instances of... Over 100g

Now that doesn't surprise me at all, my boy plays Rugby as a prop in under 11,s and even at that level they smack into each other with a fair old thud!!

Watching the 18yr olds on the other pitches during training and their matches and I can quite believe the figures quoted as they are full on and have no fear!!!

Been to Twickenham and watched matches with the big boys and you can hear the impact from the stands sometimes, so 50-70g, yep quite believable.

Fortunately hasn't happened for a couple of years, but it wasn't an unusual sight for the air ambulance to land in the rugby field. Head injuries were normally taken away in an ice cream van though, and the helicopter would go home empty handed.

I watch the Northampton Saints every home game and being the best  of course means we have some of the biggest hitters in the country. Courtney Lawes and Samu Manoa spring immediately to mind. I've heard loads of stories that a lot of players are concussed whilst playing without actually being on the floor. Knowing nothing about concussion I don't know if that's correct or not.

Courtney puts in at least one of these each game and usually leaves the bloke grounded unless the guy he's hit is also tough as fek

That's what worries me with "Rugga", even with my boy being solid and stocky and with most of the others built like twiglets he has had a few injuries. never good to see the kids get badly hurt no matter if our side or the other's.

Shown my son that vid and all he says is "cool" I'll do that tomorrow.

Split right knee-cap (studs) 16 stitches

4 broken ribs
1 Broken collar bone
Several eye cuts = stitches X 5
Broken left ankle
Stitches to various cuts to me 'ead

Loved every minute of it, played hard, let frustrations of the week out on the pitch, then had a good old P!$$ up in the bar afterwards

Same here, used to play both codes but played league in the 3rd div in france.  I was the only brit in the division and I had a bit of a reputation

That list looks not too disimilar to mine

But yes those G levels dont suprise me at all but if we go the same way as that poncy American rip-off then it will be a sad day in deed

I hated the bloody game; I spent 4 years at school dropping the ball so that it was rarely passed to me. That should have been 5 years, but I broke my leg 2 days before starting at the Grammar school so didn't 'play' in my first year.

Watched the England Game against Samoa.

....oh yes, had to give my scrum cap to the flyhalf after we packed the cut on his forehead with Vas....

I just had to put tape on after that.

And they say motorcycling is dangerous!!!

BUT, as you say, those that play it (my boy included) love it!!

That's my Sunday mornings sorted for the foreseeable future,2hrs cold & damp, but as long as he don't get to injured, quite happy as I never really got into it before but I do get quite caught up in it now.

5yrs and counting, hopefully he will tire of it before he gets to hurt.
