Exhaust Blowing
« on: 16 April 2009, 20:34:28 »

I think that my exhaust is blowing at the join between the front pipe and the manifold, might possibly be on both of them as it's a 3.0 V6.

I have recently had the cylinder heads off due to the gaskets going, and since putting it all back together the exhaust seems to be blowing a little until the system gets hot.

I torqued the nuts up properly to the studs on the manifolds, so am reluctant to tighten them any more to avoid snapping them, but is there anything else I can do. Maybe some exhaust sealing compound?

Any advice welcome.  :)

Did you put the multi layer exhaust manifold gaskets on?

Did you use new manifold gaskets, guess you have?
Or this maybe where the manifold joins cat's, did you replace gaskets there to?

New multi layer manifold gaskets were used when it was put back together.

By this I guess your refering to the downpipes. I didn't realise that there were gaskets there as there didn't seem to be any when removed.  :question

Finally got round to replacing the ring gasket between the manifold and the downpipe today. Luckily it was just the o/s one that needed replacing as I couldn't get the lamda sensor out of the n/s downpipe. She is purring like a kitten now! :y

Thanks for the advice given!  :)
