2.5 V6 Cambelt Change
« on: 03 April 2008, 19:20:03 »

Sorry if this question has been asked and answered before.

I need to change the cambelt on my 1998 Omega 2.5 V6 because I have no record of when it was last changed.

I asked at 3 garages in my area and they refused to do it saying the job was a pig!

I was wondering if anyone has had theirs done at a Vauxhall Master fit or whatever and how much it cost you.

The car is worth about £700 tops and think that if the cost of a belt kit replacement is over £250 then it would not be worth doing.

Are you capable of DIY?  There is a good DVD on the website taking you through all the steps of changing the cambelt and tensioners.  Think it shows you how to change the waterpump as well.  I think you'll need a locking kit to do it though.  Link at the bottom.

I've heard of garages refusing to change the cambelt on the v6 before so if you do find one it's likely to be pricey.

I would not even dream of doing a job like that. Mainly because I dont have the time, no experience and also I have no garage. I have done a cambelt on an old escort MK3 and that was bad enough!

Yes that would be helpful. I'm only about 60 miles from there. Just depends what the difference in price would be. Cheers.
