Omega General Help / Re: How to Jump start with Omega
« on: 01 January 2009, 15:34:10 »
There are several thick wires connecting to the root of the positive (red) pole, but there should be ample bare metal to hook a 'crocodile' jump lead on it.

Not sure, but you can remove the gaiter from around the auto gearstick and shine a torch inside and check if you can see which bit is being affected when you shift it into R.... just a thought.

..and keep in mind that over the 8-years production run of the 2.5/3.0 Omega there were three different types of coil pack, so as you suggested you need to use a replacement that has the exact same shape and plug socket size etc.

Omega General Help / Re: Cam Belt - why me?
« on: 20 October 2008, 15:56:16 »
I had both my 'meegas done at VX, and apart from the price it all went well.... I drove the second 'meega for another 25 miles before selling it, and it was spot-on.

Keep in mind that there are many V6 Vectras out there, so even considering the rarity of Omegas being serviced by main dealers these days, thy mechanics still get a fair chance to train on the V6 cambelt change.

Very feasible it wasn't the garage fault, but faulty part, and as said by others they seem to be pretty fair about it so far.

Not defending Vx dealers mind you, has my share of trouble (oil filter housing tightened to front-wheel-bearing torque, pads fitted wrong-way-round...) but they don't always get it wrong.

Engine oil: Vx own-brand 10W40 semi-synth is best, NO additives.
Works a treat for the car...

Autobox: Any ATF Dexron III (does not have to be Vx), NO additives.

Rear Diff: Special Vx fluid, NO additives (other than the Vx additive if LSD).

Temp gauge V6 - mine sits around 92 - 93ēC this weather - hot weather 95ēC (98 in traffic then fans cut in and bring it down)

Oil smell - probably cam cover gaskets leaking - replace with genuine Vx gaskets + black sealant & clean breathers (dirty breathers will cause gaskets to leak)

Heat pad gone - usual fault - can change if seats fabric - sewn into leather.

My Omega used to go up-and-down between 85-98 when in traffic. This does not seem to be an issue....

Omega General Help / Re: Fire extinguisher
« on: 20 October 2008, 16:38:22 »
It's not my car, just some info I found on the Internet. I was considering doing it in my car, but decided not too, because I did not want to drill holes in the floorpan. But this is how it is done in motorsport, and this is how I would have done it if I decided to go ahead with this.

I Have one but its in the Emergency box in the boot

So do I, but it is not the best way to do this.

It should come sideways under the drivers seat, bolted to the floor. I just didn't fancy drilling the car. This way you can use it while still seated, or leave the car and grab it on your way out.
