Omega General Help / Auto Box code P1844
« on: 26 May 2009, 11:03:41 »
Was doing some work on ORO's car over the weekend (MY2000 2.5 Elite auto estate) and discovered the auto gearbox ECU had P1844 present:

- "Ignition / Injection cutoff circuit High I/P"
In the live data this value was showing 87% IIRC.

In addition, in the engine ECU there were no faults present but in the live data it showed the transmission coding as "Manual" and also showed Number of cylinders"4". :o

The car had a faulty ABS/TC ECU at the time (IIRC, we'd actually removed it by the time we did some of the diagnosis).

Despite this, it appears to drive perfectly well.

Has anyone come across this or anything similar before? It could be a bizarre side-effect of ABS ECU failure, of course, but I'm wondering if it's a poor connection between engine ECU and autobox ECU or if one or other are incorrectly coded for the car? (seems to be no auto/manual coding available for the engine ECU so I guess it picks this up automatically?)

Omega General Help / Exhaust conundrum
« on: 16 December 2008, 09:52:55 »
My previously slightly leaky exhaust system has deteriorated a bit faster than I expected and I now have an urgent need to change it before the MOT in early January. :-[

I had previously been thinking about getting a stainless system fitted but the slight blow by the back box that I currently have has been getting on my nerves and I'm wondering if I can live with the extra noise.

I thought about getting a system from Eternal just to chuck on for now, but they only list Omega systems for 2.5 and 3.0 to 2001 - in common with most exhaust suppliers on the web, it seems. They categorically stated that they don't have a system that will fit my 3.2. Nowhere have I found parts for the 3.2 listed, in fact. The closest I have come is a 2.6 system.

I need both centre sections and a back box, and, given recent reports of the quality of main dealer systems that's not an option.

Does anyone know what the interchangability of the systems is? 2.6 / 3.2 clearly have different cat sections compared with the 2.5 / 3.0, but does this mean the centre sections are different? Presumably the 2.6 system will fit but with a single tail pipe from the back box? Will a pre-2001 back box fit a facelift? Even with a little "modification"?

Any supplier recommendations?

TIA,

Kevin

Omega General Help / Alarm PITA - anyone know how to disable it?
« on: 24 April 2007, 09:59:02 »
Over the last couple of days my alarm has started going off pretty much every time I park up. It's fine for 30 minutes then it goes off.

Sounds like bonnet sensor, I know. I had a poke around last night in the dark and it seems intact but I will investigate this a little further.

The really odd thing is that it just went off in the office car park and the horn silenced when I unlocked the car but not the siren. This continued for another couple of minutes. In the end I got in the car, switched the ignition on, then off, then on again. Eventually after I'd left the ignition on and resorted to reading the handbook it stopped.

Crept out of the car and locked with a key and fingers crossed it's OK.

I didn't think the alarm was set unless the car was deadlocked by pressing the lock button twice? Pretty sure I locked it once today, mindful of the problem.

Does this sound like normal behaviour or is there a fault with the power sounder as well perhaps?

Was my silencing method correct? Can't think of anything else I should have done. (except to apply  Sammy Sledge to the power sounder >:( )

Cheers,

Kevin

Omega General Help / Ignition key jammed in lock
« on: 27 April 2008, 19:44:09 »
Turned up at Marie's yesterday, parked up and switched off and the key wouldn't come out of the ignition barrel. >:(

Popped off the cowling around the steering column and found a little solenoid on the bottom of the lock cylinder. It was quite warm after an hour or two being parked up, which caught my attention. Anyway, I removed the electrical connector from it and key came out no problem, much to Mrs. KW's delight as she had plans on a shopping spree while we were playing with gearboxes.

It seems the solenoid fires a pin up into the lock which prevents the key being turned fully back to the removal position. It should be de-energised when the 'box is in park but I'm guessing there's a switch stuck somewhere and this wasn't happening.

Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else finds themselves in the same predicament. Worth making sure you have a small posidrive screwdriver just in case...

Omega General Help / Another one refusing to start
« on: 28 July 2007, 19:54:06 »
Parked up for a hour or so today and on my return the car wouldn't start >:(

Cranked over normally, just wouldn't fire. Tried a floored throttle and such like. Nothing. Not a hint of wanting to fire at all. Opened bonnet and pulled a few connectors about to check for loose ones, checked all fuses, generally tried to look like I had an idea why it was doing this to me ;)

SWMBO said it sounded funny when cranking so I told her to crank it while I listened under the bonnet, convinced it had sounded quite normal. Damned thing started first time for her >:(

Played up a little next time I stopped but started on second or third attempt.

No EML showing and it runs normally once started.

I'm thinking it's either the crank sensor or that the transponder was not un locking the immobiliser (interference, maybe?). Would a code 19 light the EML? Might have to find a laptop that'll run cheapo tech2 and check just in case.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Omega General Help / It was going too well.
« on: 27 February 2007, 10:05:27 »
Autobox upgrade lovely,
Cruise control working...

This morning.. Check engine light  :(

Happened soon after the engine got up to temperature when accelerating on about 1/2 throttle. Running normally AFAIK and didn't disappear aftyer a restart :'(

It'll have to take it back to the dealer and get the code read.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi All..
« on: 16 February 2007, 20:08:23 »
Just a quick message to say Hi. Just came across the forum and it looks like a real gold mine of Omega information.

I've had my MV6 for 6 weeks now and am very happy with it.

Unfortunately some muppet servicing the CCTV installation in a car park dropped his ladder on the bonnet this week  :'( . Until then it was lovely but he did have the decency to admit liability and give me his details so hopefully that'll be repaired soon.

Cheers,

Kevin

Omega Gallery / Some photos for Lizzie Zoom - OT
« on: 23 February 2009, 14:12:42 »
Our snapshot camera died over Christmas and I went out on a rather chilly morning in January to try out its' successor. Thought these might bring back some memories. Not too bad for a 70 quid point and shoot, I thought. Wish it had a proper viewfinder though. >:(
