Sorry, I didn't make it clear....
I meant a group weekend away....like we used to have years ago....
I kept trying for Newent, but interest was zero.

I'd certainly be up for it, because I found them thoroughly enjoyable

Newent "died" IMHO because too many folks wanted a very small number of willing mechanics to do a vast amount of work on their cars for nothing, and when that was stopped those folks simply did not turn up. The amount of work that Mark, TB, Daz, Gixer, Kieth and a few others were expected to do was, basically, stupid and greedy.

Those that did turn up to the last "Newent" had a great time visiting places in the local area, socialising, eating stacks of BBQ food and cheese,  and drinking vast amounts of beer, port and whisky :) Unfortunately, the numbers wanting to do those simple things just did not add up to a viable weekend.

It wouild be great do do it again, but I think that boat has sailed, never to return ...  :(

The last 2 (?) meets have been just a single turn-up-on-the-day types, which means no drinking for most  :( IMS the last one was organised by Josh near Oxford ??

It's a pity that selfish, greedy people spoil a good social event.
When I was younger and more active, I belonged to the Morris Register, and we had an annual Concours event at Bournemouth over a weekend, camping in the New Forest (when it was allowed to pitch anywhere in the forest) and even with wives along it was great fun!
The reason why it is no longer permitted to camp anywhere other than managed sites now is once again the selfish, senseless behaviour of some individuals that made a dreadful mess of the site. Our group cleaned up afterwards and never left a trace - just as it should be.

Yep, just what I had in mind, Nige - almost an Omega Concours!  :y 8)

We had some brilliant weekends at Newent.  Lots of work done but as Nige says, it quickly became a place where folks got chunky work done for heehaw and some didn’t even stay overnight to supply a bottle or a box of beer or a pack of burgers for the BBQ.

I wouldn’t like to put a number on the cost of the whisky I shared with the (most willing) virgin phillistines who, I hope, were converted to the greater good.   ;)

Well, TD, you may have awakened some interest in a (summer) weekend away - could be fun.

If it does get off the ground I'd turn up just to put some names and faces to usernames.  :y

Assuming id be welcome sans Omega.  ;) I fear the Desmond isn't fit to be seen in public, even if I could wrest it from the parents  ;D

Very sad that in any group of people above a certain size you always get the selfish who mess it up for others. As an opportunity to learn from people who really know what they're doing, Newent sounded great! Again, I'd have turned up just to watch/assist.

I'd like to come along, shifts permitting, although I doubt I'll do much tinkering. After an hour or so, my back really lets me know about it, and after a couple, I have to take strong painkillers which would then knock me out and spoil the evening. Feel free to delegate me a cambelt, or something, though, especially if I can complete it by doing one hour each day :y

With a bit of luck, I'll have an MOT on "NXR" by then (and have sorted the arches!) and will be able to bring her along!

You certain led me astray on some of our virtual trips around Scotland whilst at Newent.

If anybody fancies trying to organise it, Newent is an excellent site for allowing groups like ours, and is a very good site with good facilities.  Downside is its location isn't exactly central.

Yes, we were talking about it too, given weve just had a week staying at a previous OOF campsite - Dalebottom.
We would prob be there, even with no omegas any more
