Yeah, I would never get the older Mondeo, bit I rented a new one for 2 weeks on the continent once and it was great except for the PITA diesel engine.  I do agree that the highway mileage is great, my J Rover 214 wouldn't do better.  Thing is I don't do that much highway.  Do want to do weekend trips though.

However, I get a whiff of oil out the tailpipe, I need new front brakes, front suspension, dampers, an electric rad fan is about to croak, coolant level warnings, HID pointed at ground, o/s rear window dead, front seat heaters dead, etc.  Not everything needs to be fixed, but the next 9 months won't be cheap leading up to MOT.  I haven't had a chance to change the oil being so busy with cambelt, cam covers, etc.  I also can't find anyone but the dealer who will change the auto box and rear diff fluid.
