remember vauxhall cresta,s
« on: 05 July 2016, 18:17:29 »

I just had a guy call & he told me he,s been working for a farmer and in a shed there is a Vauxhall Cresta. he didn't say what condition it was in. I used to have one column change, a speedometer that went straight across & changed colour the faster it went. not forgetting a big bench seat in the front. the girlfriend at the time used to love that.  ;) ;D ;D

3.3 litre engine IIRC. Great for putting a 'Starsky and Hutch' stripe down the sides.

He doesn't need to say what condition it's in: it's rusty. Everywhere. They all are. All 5 that are left.

No matter which model Cresta it is it'll most certainly be rusty!PA Crestas had I believe a 2.6L engine, not sure about the PB and I think PC Cresta/Viscount had 3.3L engines.

Did they increase capacity of PA engines from the original 2.6 to 3.3?I know the "three window"  Pa's were 2.6s,but don't know where in production 3.3s came in.

I believe the Ventora shared the 'breathless' 3.3 litre lump.

Rumour has it that this engine was used in a lorry.

Many happy memories of my dads 3.3 litre Viscount complete with limited slip diff and PowerGlide transmission

It came with separate manuals for the different areas of the car. Awesome car, until a mouth breather stole it and torched it :'( :'( :'(

Yes, I believe so. My brother had a purple one with a gold stripe. Not a factory colour, more a 2" paintbrush one.  ;D

I had the more rounded Cresta, came out before the PA. Leather bench seats and 3-speed column change. Two tone green, also had a valve radio!
The chrome was peeling off the bumpers in sheets, I was told that there was a nickel shortage so Vauxhall had plated directly onto steel - chrome is porous so the steel rusted under the chrome.

I had a Ventora back in 73, bought it just before they started issuing fuel coupons because of the shortage, never did get to use them.
In an attempt to increase MPG I fitted a 36/36 DCD Weber, did nothing for the fuel consumption but the sound was awesome.

I know that as a group we were knockin' on a bit. I just didin't realize how many of us and just how much. I feel quite young and spritely  :y  Let me see, '73 ? I would be early 20's
