General Car Chat / Senator A2.
« on: 14 January 2017, 14:22:19 »
Hello all,
I've just bought a Senator to go with my Royale Coupe.

Needs two new doors but came with 4 good spare doors and a front wing. Apparently the 62000 miles is genuine.
It's mot'd till the end of March.

It does obviously have issues!

The main issue it's missing again on one cylinder-The previous owner suspected a rusty petrol tank-he had it sealed inside and put a new filter and pump on. It ran well for a while then the misfire reappeared.
I've driven it a couple of miles today and am suspecting an injector-theres no smell of unburnt petrol and I'm assuming the injection system is too basic to shut down an individual injector.
I'll find out what cylinder it is in the week and test the feed to the injector-if I find a problem I'll borrow one off my Royale!

Will keep you posted!

General Car Chat / Royale Coupe and MOT
« on: 15 December 2015, 19:48:56 »
Friend took it to his garage where he works-gave it a once over and it needs two bits of welding and a set of pads for the mot-booked in for the first week in Jan.
Better than I thought.

Other issues.

Will need a centre bearing and holder for the prop.

Speedo-the speedo is original Royale but the engine and box are Monza 3.0i-there is an electronic take off the box-any ideas on how to get a speedo working?

Heater not blowing hot or even luke warm-even when engine up to temp.

Gearbox rear seal leaking.

Strange feeling through the steering such as worn rubber mountings/bushes you can sometimes feel it through the wheel and hear it especially when on full lock-feels a bit similar to the front bush problems on mark 3 Granadas.

Any advice on the above would be more than welcome!

Regards

General Car Chat / Back with a Vauxhall.
« on: 03 November 2015, 18:08:33 »
Having had two Omega's from 2001 to 2011, I have now returned to a Vauxhall.

It's had its original 2.8 carb and three speed auto replaced with a 3.0 injection and four speed auto from a later Senator.

Plans are to take it in a few weeks for an MOT-see whats wrong and eventually smoke around and carry out a rolling restoration.

Morning all,
Friends father bought one of these the other day with the 3.0 Mercedes diesel lump. Looks a nice vehicle. Looked on Autotrader and they are very good value compared to a similar age Disco or rangie.

General Car Chat / Ford Sierra Radiator
« on: 04 May 2013, 11:16:19 »
Morning all,
Still having slight issues with my Sierra. Started getting hot a bout 8 months ago-replaced water pump, thermostat and foolishly (I think) the HG. On the level the car is fine but when you come to a hill the temp starts to rise-it doesn't overheat but climbs rapidly towrds the Red.
I'm now suspecting a partially blocked radiator-I tried flushing a few months back and it did make a slight difference. The radiator is original and 20 years old.
Any ideas greatly appreciated./

General Car Chat / Fords!!!
« on: 23 March 2013, 10:37:31 »
Morning all,
My wife has a 55 plate Focus estate (40000 miles). Had it a month already had a new coil pack.
Now I have a power steering leak-apparently the 1.6 Focus' are known for leaking pipes.

Had many Fords for many years and rarely had a problem-but now two problems in 1 month!
The first Omega I had for 9 years never broke down and only the HBV needed changing-although the Elite estate I had following this for two years did need an exhaust, coil pack, HBV  and a gearbox fluid change.

The car was a trade in taken by my brother in law who is a salesman for Ford-the only good thing is I had it £1500 cheaper than I would have payed for a comparable private sale. Will have a look this afternoon (bit cold and snowy though) but is booked into a garage next week.

And to top it off my Range Rover has burned out another horn (a long story!)

General Car Chat / Had a Focus one day and it's already broken!
« on: 21 February 2013, 18:43:19 »
Evening all,

Bought a 55 plate 1.6 100BHP Focus estate yesterday to replace the wifes Fiesta. 39000 miles. Drove like a dream on the test drive and on the 30 mile trip home yesterday. Wife told me when I got home toady that it felt like it was missing whilst driving. I took it out and indeed it is and the engine management light is on. Luckily enough I bought it via my brother in law who is a salesman for ford and he will have them plug it in on saturday.

I'm suspecting a coil pack-but any other guidance would be graetly appreciated.

To say I'm peeved is an understatement.

General Car Chat / Ford Sierra Alternator

Morning all,
Another fault with my Sierra,  (may be time to ditch it!)
Battery light has just come on and dims when revved-could it be the diode pack in the alternator?

General Car Chat / Still Problems with my Sierra
« on: 29 October 2012, 07:53:54 »
Morning all,
The saga of the overheating sierra continues. Had the HG replaced (cost me an arm and a leg)-still don't think the problem is solved-car running a little lumpy. Haven't really used it for 2 weeks although started it regularly and let it tick over. Last night went to take it out for a spin and it will not start. It's turning over but not firing-could this be something to do with the lumpiness and missing?

Any ideas greatly received!!

General Car Chat / Radiator flushing
« on: 17 October 2012, 09:06:36 »
Morning all,
I'm going to try and flush the radiator on my Sierra (still not right after changing HG, waterpump, thermostat, fan switch and flushing heater matrix).
On cooling systems which way does the water flow-is it in at the bottom and out at the top or the other way round?

Cheers

General Car Chat / Overheating Sierra - Latest
« on: 13 October 2012, 18:16:23 »
Evening all,
A few of you may remember I had problems with my Sierra-it had started it seemed to overheat and thge last straw was it pumping out smokey fumes from the exhaust.
Well friend of mine changed the head gasket-it was a bit burnt between number 4 and the outside. Head was sent away for checking-no problem. Everything reassembled with a new Ford waterpump. Drove it home today and it still doesn't seem right. Temp up to about 3/4 but still seemed a little lumpy on tickover and on backing off the throttle. I'm hoping I have a dodgy lead.

Fingers crossed for work on Monday-if it's not fixed-I don't know what it could be-it's had a new HG, waterpump, fan switch and thermostat.
