General Discussion Area / point & shoot camera
« on: 22 November 2011, 23:18:50 »
I used my camera last night, tried to make it 'talk' to the pc to transfer the photo's but as it wouldn't play (always could be temperamental) took the SD card out & put it directly in the pc. Left camera on table. 1/2 hour later the camera started making a buzzing/fizzing noise  ??? ??? ??? ??? Lasted 10 secs or so & then silent ..................... the camera had died  :o :o :o
Looks like a new camera is on my list to Santa  ;D ;D

General Car Chat / FAO Electrics/electronic bods
« on: 16 November 2011, 22:02:15 »
This afternoon as I was working on her Smart I managed to snap the M6 terminal of the 12v connection of its 'SAM' (fuse box & ECU) You can see it right in the middle of this picture http://www.fq101.co.uk/images/stories/reference/insidesam10.JPG It's only brass & I must've been a little heavy handed  ::) ::) ::) Anyway I drilled & tapped for a M6 stud & all is well. I looked at removing the post from the board - it's bolted & soldered - but my largest iron wasn't big enough.
What's the name of the post in case I wanted to buy another - a quick Google has failed.  :-\ :-\

General Car Chat / new radiators
« on: 14 November 2011, 21:59:37 »
Who's the recommended suppliers of radiators?

This is not an Omega request, but a Kia Sedonna. I've found this, but was trying to remember who Mark suggested/recommended.  :y
TIA

General Car Chat / Sticky pads
« on: 22 October 2011, 14:49:37 »
Ages back I ligitimately aquired  ;) all sorts of odds & ends of car electrickey bits & pieces. Amongst it all were some sticky pads on a grease proof paper intended for sticking relays etc to the inside of your car. I want some more but no idea where to get them from. They were NOT the double sided sticky pads you get in stationary shops, but more like a very tacky/gooey Blue Tack ........ and they were black.  :-\  :-\
TIA

Omega General Help / Dash illumination
« on: 17 October 2011, 19:23:06 »
Is there two different 'wattage' dash illumination type lamps?

I replaced all my dash backlights a few weeks back (I don't use the Omega enough  :( to notice) and I'm sure that they are brighter than they should be. I fully appreciate that they could seem brighter than they should because it took me till the last lamp blew before I realised any had blown  ::) ::) ::)

General Car Chat / The diseasal Astra ....
« on: 12 October 2011, 20:57:19 »
.... passed its MOT this afternoon. Close call with the emissions though - he'd to cheat a little to make it pass though  ::) ::)

It's predecessor had 175000 miles on the clock & used to do the emissions dead easy, this 'low milage' 105000 miles car has struggled with the past 2 MOTs  :-\ :-\ :-\

Omega General Help / Idle Air Control valve?
« on: 12 October 2011, 15:18:45 »
From cold my car starts first turn of the key (battery permitting  ::)) with no need to touch the throttle. However, sometimes when hot I need to feather the throttle to start it, otherwise it's very reluctant to start, once started though its runs OK. Also, sometimes after a long spell on the motorway, it wants to tick over at more like 1000rpm/1200rpm, a quick blip of the throttle will sort it. At Newent this year when Kevin W was playing on the Tech II with the IAC valve it did something similar re the revs/tick over. The valve has been off a couple of times & flushed out with acetone, no crap in there really, no 3-in-1 though  :-\.

Any thoughts? A N Other IAC valve? Another clear out?

General Car Chat / Car Insurance
« on: 03 October 2011, 13:51:27 »
I got my renewal notice last week. As discussed here before I have a 'Home Fleet' policy from Tradex. Last year, for the 3 cars (3.0 Omega, 1.7 diseasal Astra & Smart Roadster) & 2 drivers it had gone up a massive £40ish  ::) from around £718 to£760. This year it's gone up to £818, which I don't think is bad. Just out of interest I enquired about including my daughter on the policy, she's 22 & passed her test Jan 2008, although not cheap the quote was £1564. Considering that young lads are paying £2000 - £3000 for their insurance on basic Astras etc I thought the quote was quite competitive.

A N Other forum mentioned one of these

I've never even heard of one of these even though the technical deatils says that it's also suitable for an Astra G. I've had an Atra G for about 5 years now & never noticed where I might use it ........... but never really looked!  ::) ::)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Batteries
« on: 24 February 2010, 10:39:10 »
My battery looks to be dying a death. Just found the receipt and I bought it 09/02/07 ..... bugger! just outside the 3yr warrenty  :'(
Looking at the Trade Club on-line shows that the battery suggested for the 3.2 is the same as the 2.5 TD ie 85A/Hr. :-?  Does anyoneone else with a V6 have a 85A/Hr battery on their car? At present there's a 72 on mine but having seen the TC site I'm not sure now whether I want/would like the bigger battery.  :-/  :-/

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / cd/radio
« on: 28 August 2009, 22:19:22 »
Not strictly an Omega question but ......  ;)
the CDR500 cd/radio fitted in Astras and  ..... er  :-/ seems to come in two flavours VDO and Delco.
As Harry Hill would say ....... which one is best!

(or which would would you buy to replace a crappy radio/cassette)

If this one is fully tested .... why does it now need a code? Or did they 'fully test it' without the code?  :-/  ;D  ;D  ;D

And ths seller seems oblivious to the need of the security code ...... 'it's in the removable front' :-/ apparently  :-?  :-?  :-?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / radio & HRW reception
« on: 26 October 2008, 18:11:21 »
I know .... I know .... it's been mentioned on here loads of times but I've looked & can't find.  :-[
I've just experienced cr4ppy Radio 2 reception with the heated rear window turned on. Perfect without.
It'd been perfect earlier in the journey with the HRW on, untill I got to the town centre where obvioulsy there are more taller buildings.
What's failed, the amplifier on the rear parcel shelf?
