Any driving instructors in the house?
« on: 06 September 2012, 22:52:51 »

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?p=908728#post908728 (My alter ego is EmilysDad  ;)) and I've been told that driving an auto 2 footed is an instant failure on your test. Not that I would've ever taken a driving test in an auto.

Anyone able to confirm one way or t'other?  ??? ???

I wonder why it should be?  ??? I now have to think about braking with my right foot  ;D. When I had the 3 pedal Astra I never had a problem swapping from auto to man to auto .......  :y :y

I was told, about 10 years ago, by a driving examiner, that you can use 2 feet on an auto if you wish, its your preference.....i doubt thats changed......

I always use left foot for breaking in an auto. Often do the same in my Cavalier (manual) while doing clutchless gearchanges. ;)
Dont see why left foot braking should be a reason to fail the test in an auto, unless your dim enough to do it while the right foot is still on the throttle pedal. :-\

You've to read through some of the gumpf, but even Honest John drives with two feet. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/driving-automatics-safely/  ;D
and no mention of 'it's the law' to use one foot here http://www.drivingtheorytestquestions.co.uk/guides/using-foot-controls-automatic merely suggestions & it even says that you might find it easier with two feet in heavy traffic.  :y

The auto fork trucks at work require both feet but I would never use both in the auto car. Right foot only.  :y

The Still FLTs at work are very easily upset if you press both pedals at once & just do nothing ....... you need to take your feet off & start again.

I used to drive a Still forklift around 20 years ago.It was the best truck I ever drove (when the electronics werent playing up).It handled superbly loaded or unloaded. Mine was briefly fitted with a prototype circuit board to try to make the electronics more reliable. It had speed adjustment built into the board and I talked the fitter into turning the wick up to max. The result was a 45mph forklift. :o :)
It lasted a week before my boss got them back to turn it back down.It was a lot of fun while it lasted though. ;D ;D

It seems obvious to me: you've 2 pedals, and 2 feet.

I don't know anyone who drives an auto with just one foot.
