squeaky steering wheel/column
« on: 28 September 2012, 23:51:39 »

Does anyone else suffer from squeaky steering wheel/column? The Omega doesn't really get the use that it deserves, but I notice that when I do use it, there's a plastic on plastic type of sound that seems to be from just behind the wheel/top of the steering column. It gets quieter the more the car is used ..... whether it's use or warmth that sorts it, I'm not sure.
No noticeable play anywhere around the wheel.  :-\

Suggestions on a postcard .......  ;) ;) ;)

Sounds like it could be the plastic air bag squib under the steering wheel that also cancels the indicators...mine did the same thing and then the steering wheel jammed while turning right...on removal of the steering wheel i found that it had broken the plastic and got jammed...fitted a new one and all was ok.....something like this one on ebay....item 350326657611.... :y

I'm sure this has been mentioned before. MDTM was saying about it. I best change the one on my MV6 before it stacks itself!

Ta. I'll remove the airbag & have a look ....... I assume it's fastened to the column rather than the back of the wheel  :-\

My previous CDX Omega used to suffer from that and I put it down to just things getting cold.

Lived with it for almost 4 years and like you said it would go after a bit of use so I just accepted it.My Elite dosent do it so perhaps there is some merit in have a look behind the wheel area.Mine always sounded more like it was from the bottom of the steering colomn so maybe a joint or knuckle gets dry

Forgotten all about that thread  ::) ::) ::)
It doesn't look like it'll get looked at sometime soon though unless I buy a wet suit to work in. It's not stopped raining all week!  :(
