Title: Steering column top bearing
Post by: Conradh on 11 May 2018, 10:24:32
Just had a MOT on my 1998 2.5v6 Elite and it has an advisory - the Steering column top bearing slightly worn.  Spoke to Vauxhall who said it’s not been discontinued.  Does anyone know where I can get one?

That's a very odd failure. It's probably worth asking the tester why he thinks it's a problem before you go any further. And that should include removing the column shroud and examining the top of the column.

Ha that’s right wish it had not been discontinued!

I’m sure the testers have to give out a certain number of advisories per month or something.  I’ve had some odd ones in the past on my other Car’s.  One was an oil leak on my Carlton.  They said most Vauxhall’s usually have an oil leak. I asked where it was coming from and they couldn’t answer that question.

Can you feel anything odd?I would think if bearing was slightly worn you'd be able to feel some sort of movement of the steering wheel[stand to be corrected on that as I've never had a top bearing wear out on any car I've owned]Other than that could it be the bit that adjusts the steering column up/down that's worn[had that on a Senator A once] that he's felt?-again stand to be corrected on that one too.
