Title: Black sealant 15 03 295
Post by: terry paget on 27 January 2019, 10:05:57
I need some more black cam cover gasket sealant. Haynes says Vx 15 03 295, but when I search it on e-bay nothing pops up. Has it been superceded?

Search for the part number rather than the KAT number, so GM 90485251. Looks like around £7 delivered.

Any sensor safe RTV sealant will be fine, so just have a look in your local motor factors.
Loctite 598, IIRC, is a popular substitution.

e-bay offered me that item at £14.67, plus £302.92 postage from Germany; seemed a bit hot. Google was better at £5.67, but warned me that it was a locking compound.

There are at least three UK sellers on ebay. The first two in the list are:

nevlockperformance (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-ALL-MODELS-BLACK-SEALING-COMPOUND-90485251/254089134295?hash=item3b28e480d7:g:~iEAAOSwYlRZJv7t:rk:1:pf:1&frcectupt=true) @ £6.74

Vauxhall-Superstore-UK (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-ALL-MODELS-BLACK-SEALING-COMPOUND-GENUINE-NEW/160973989611?hash=item257acc26eb:g:9wAAAMXQqBxRGiYk:rk:2:pf:1&frcectupt=true) @ £6.95

Are you sure you're allowed to suggest non Vauxhall products for this application?
Isn't there a forum rule against it, the breaking of which will cause the Omega Inquisition to plump up the cushions and drink most of the tea as soon as it becomes public?

But you're right, a smear of any reasonably flexible sealant will be good enough

Indeed. I've made a terrible mistake in suggesting that. :(

Loctite have changed their numbering and it's now 5699. :y

Available in Hellfrauds, although check their stock as the last tube I had from them had gone solid. ;D

Not to mention that the Loctite 5699 is grey, not black.
The GM sealer also goes solid in the tube if left for a while.
