Well, the Omega passed but it did have a couple of advisories on front disc inner face corrosion and play in a balljoint. A couple of little jobs for after Christmas I think.
Excellent  :)
congratulations on the pass  :y
front brakes are a piece of p155 on Omegas anyway

ball joint  :-\ I assume bottom one on the wishbone ?

Yep bottom balljoint, which is bolted on as I replaced them before, so also an easy job.

Im too old and facked for that sort of caper. Parts will be sourced and then fitted on a day when the weather isn't too Baltic, whenever that may be. If it has to wait until April then so be it.

Discs are a common 'not driven enough' issue ;)

Easily rectified, as you say :y

If I could afford to drive the Omega all the time I would get rid of it and buy a Boxster.
It has done less than 4k miles in the last year, so that will be a contributory factor in the discs problem. Might try and get some genuine VX discs before Trade club shuts down.

If the Omega is spending long periods of time parked up ,no point in swapping the discs surely  :-\
they will just rust again
strip and clean the caliper guides, lube them etc to make sure they are free if worn or rusted inside
sticking caliper or piston  :-\

Many Vauxhalls suffer this, where the inner face gets badly corroded , starting at the outer circumference and slowly working inwards.  Never seen this on other cars I've owned.  My MV6 and TB2 aside - where I tended to wear out the discs before this happened - this has happened on all my Omegas, and the Zafira. and the Nova...

Yup, so best to accept it as one of those foibles all cars have and change them once in a while. Probably about every three years/ 12k miles in my case.

I've seen that on almost every car I've owned - the MR2 was notorious for it (almost everyone would report the same problem, regardless of miles driven), the MINI discs were the same when I took them off.. haven't had it, however, on the BMW (genuine BMW discs) and we'll see how the MINI holds up now it too is running genuine BMW discs. Even the OE Toyota discs would do it, though. People would try painting the outer edge and top hat to no avail.
