This has nothing to do with punishment or rehabilitation, it's another way of 'managing' the overpopulated prisons. Prison really doesn't hold any fear with a lot of people these days although, I must admit, I wouldn't fancy it myself.

I know these days it's all about rehabilitation and not the hard labour of old but prison doesn't seem to be much of a deterrent anymore.They'll be getting waiters serving them their meals next!

If they can't queue for the phone without having a punch up, surely the solution is to take away the phone, not give them more. ::)

I know a fella who's a bit of a nutter and a while back he got 50 hours community service for racially abusing a shopkeeper.  ::)

He only had to do 2 hours a week, which given that he dosn't work shouldn't be to much trouble, but apparently it was as he didn't bother to turn up and ended up going to prison for 2 weeks instead.

He had been inside a few times before and had no fear of going back, in fact I got the feeling that he didn't mind if he did. Probably saw it as a couple of weeks peace and quiet from his wife and kids.  ::)
