Clanky plumbing
« on: 31 July 2014, 12:18:08 »

I've been getting a house I have ready for new tenants and noticed while cleaning that when turning the cold tap off in the bathroom basin, the pipes under floor are banging.  :(

So I guess a pipe clip has come loose and the pipes aren't secured as well as they should be?  ::)  :-\

It does it a bit on the kitchen tap as well but not as bad, so I'll try that first as I don't really want to rip up the carpets and floorboards...  :-\

Thanks!  :y

Commonly known as "pipe hammer" can be a absolute sod to cure. First port of call is to make sure the pipes are firmly secured at short intervals which should cure the problem, if not you will have to dig a little deeper I.E. ballcocks, valves etc.

In that case i would go with removing tap insert, remove circlip, knock the spindle through, unscrew, remove old grease ,then regrease with silicon grease, screw spindle in all the way, insert back into the body, give circlip a quick squeeze together and refit, then test.

Sometimes, air in the system causes this. We bled our system through, and after a load of air came through, hissing and spitting, all was once more quiet  :y
