Weird fault
« on: 06 November 2019, 19:42:40 »

Wifey rang me the other morning to tell me the eml and traction control symbols had come on, along with 'reduced engine power'. It kept happening a while back and Vauxhall changed the dbw switch on the accelerator pedal. 'Not again' I thought.
Then she tells me it happened at exactly the same time as she used the rear screen wash. I told her not to be daft, they couldn't possibly be connected. She comes home and parks up tonight and, before she switched off, I asked her to operate the rear screen wash. Bong, bong, bong..traction control eml and reduced power  :-[

I have a theory  ::)

Any electrical system is a nightmare if you introduce water.

astra and other cars suffer the looms in the door shuts ,boot hatch becoming brittle ,shorting out wires
as it's a newish astra,it will be canbus
canbus shorting will spew out all sorts of faults
what's your theory Uncle Stemo  :-\
fire damage to the canbus loom at the back ?

No. The motor for the rear screen wash is in the passenger footwell somewhere, sounds so loud you'd think it was actually inside the car. If it was leaking slightly, dripping water on all of the front to rear and underseat wiring running along the top of the offside sill, it would activate all kinds of messages on the dash. Just a theory.

are you sure the screen wash motor is not under the wing  :-\
not familiar with the newer models  :-[
the older ones used to leak out onto the cooling control module
one pump did front and rear (by reversing the polarity)

As I said, Dave, wherever it is, it brings on the traction control light when you use it. So I'm assuming it's leaking onto something. Sounds too clear when running to be under the wing, but I'll accept it could be.
Vauxhall can sort it out, when we get time . If they haven't got/don't want to give a courtesy car, I can get her a  Toyota Aygo for £130 for a week from enterprise. That will teach her.  ;D

IIRC, the front and rear washers have different pumps. Im 90% sure, but it's raining, so I'm not going outside to check.

it is on astra G,H, J
https://workshop-manuals.com/vauxhall/astra-j/body_systems/wipers_and_washers/repair_instructions/windshield_washer_pump_replacement/

but if it's not the actual pump leaking ,and it IS the pipe that runs to the tailgate ,could be leaking anywhere along the line  :(
dripping screenwash on to all manor of expensive electricary gubbins  :o
