ODB
« on: 16 July 2014, 21:33:06 »

A friend of mine has a Bluetooth ODP scanner which can then be used with tablet device and various Apps to explore various engine reading live.  Even claims to log mpg, power and all other wonders !! (I have my doubt's !)

I may borrow it and have a play but before I do is there a particula flavour I need as have read various things on the compatibility.

I have a 2.5V6 CDX mini face lift (one of last ones on a V plate  :y).  My mate uses scanning tool on an Toyota Avensis 54 plate diesel !

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

2.5s aren't OBD compliant, and none of those devices will read one.
That will save you 20quid!

Your car is not OBDII/EOBD compliant, thus won't work

If you had a later car with the 2.2, 2.6 or 3.2 litre engine then it does work (I know because I've got a 2.6).

£15 for the adapter. Google for 'Torque' (for an Android phone or tablet).

With out repeating the above, but does work on later models, post petrol 2001, ie 2.2, 2.6 and 3.2, (not sure about the 2.2 Diesel) and yes most ODB2 software will do mpg, live data etc.

Thanks to all.

To conclude, I can't use the ODB dongle device with the Android Torque with my 2.5V6 to stream live data  :'(

No the Torque app and ODB Bluetooth device won't work on your 2.5V6 (doesn't work on mine either)

However, there is a USB dongle and a piece of software that will work with it, its a diagnostics reader and also does a limited amount of programming too ;)

It is easily available from the likes of Ebay and Amazon for not a lot of money...

Mine paid for itself within 2 weeks of use...

Fairly sure minifreek is trying to be diplomatic by not mentioning the product name, but Im guessing he's referring to the Com package that weren't allowed to talk about due to the fact its not licensable in the UK and there for get nuked if discussed, but I reckon you knew that anyway Al.  ;)

I may be wrong but (if it is produced by 'Auto M3') then the version with 'Opel' in the name isn't available here because Vaux-Com is available from Ilexa

Without breaking anything? Not in my experience. The legal version is good for code reading, "OK" for live data, but dangerous for programming.
